It‘s starting to look like we may be sliding into fall/winter a bit early this year. I’d really like to have a couple weeks of “strawberry weather” for the sake of those plants that are covered with blooms and small berries And the pumpkins; which might finish out anyway?

Out of concern for rot; i whacked the potato tops And covered them for the usual 2-3 week cure. This is a couple weeks prior to other years but i dont want to dig them and have issues.

A new dip ship followed me home yesterday; it’ll be more user friendly for an ole guy while dipping Reds next year. I also bought a carbon fiber Greenland paddle and a “Ray Special” to move it along. If your not canoe savvy; these are long narrow paddles that are shoulder friendly. Once the second paddle shows up; i’ll give it a whirl.

Nice canoodle! I live near one of the two rivers where old towne will not warranty the hull. The rock strata faces upstream and peels them! I lost one boat to it and have a Mainstream Cahaba 15 now. Its a Dagger boat from after the merger. The royalex is tougher and lighter than my old coleman 17. Easier on the back for portage as I age.

We always grow the “Kaitlin variety” cabbages from Johnny’s and just like every other year; they were perfect again! No matter the seasonal differences, they are very consistent.
We both like cabbage but in most forms; it doesn’t like us unless it’s fermented! So yesterday we made this years Kraut. It’s an easy chore that don’t take up too much time and is something we’ll enjoy thruout the year. I’ve one jar to finish from last years and this won’t be ready for several months so it works out well.

Beautiful cabbage! We also make sauerkraut and cortido with cabbage. Both recipes are a delicious fermented veggie delight!

We are currently at 8.7 inches of rain since early July and are staring in disbelief at a forecast calling for it to continue for another 10 days; probably longer.

Right now i have a close eye on things in the garden and may have to bring stuff in, if it starts going downhill. I’ll probably end up covering more of it if we don’t get a little Sun soon.

Im pretty sure this will be my last “Summery” picture for this season. We’re thankful for how the season has gone even though it’s been challenging; im sure it’s been challenging for a lot of folks This year!
Those pole beans that were so beautiful earlier are down to a scraggly bunch of almost dead vines now but they keep producing a good handful of beans every other day!

Today i cut the Chocolate Mint and it’s on the screen. We only got two cuttings this year but this ones a monster! Im sure it will yield a gallon when dry.

After a couple week cure the Onions are now in the cellar. This was by far our best year for onions and we netted 60lbs, from a 3 X 12 ft bed.

This afternoon the pumpkins will take over the curing floor. I’d not normally cut them this soon but due to concern for rot due to our continued very wet “fall” they’re coming in a month early.

The crabs did well this year and we’re in the middle of sauce making and canning them. Typically we process between 8-10 gallons of apples and will have sauce till next year at this time.
