If I remember correctly, tree peonies are borderline hardy in zone 5. I had three of them for several years. One plant kicked the bucket in only a few years. My favorite single peony is all that remains of the second plant once the woody part died back.
The one survivor who has been doing well all along is this yellow/orange beauty. It has been growing in my yard for well over 20 years.
If I were to try again, I would plant them near walls or foundations to take advantage of radiant heat during the winter here in my zone 4/5 growing area.
According to my records it is either Kinshi or Rimpoh purchased sometime before the turn of the 21th century. Not one date on either my order form or their delivery papers! Sheesh!
After checking on line, I see that the yellow/orange flower is a Kinshi tree peony. The Rimpoh is pink/red and smaller in flowering.
My herbaceous peonies are beginning to flower as well. Another reason I love this time of year!
Red you found the order form !! My mother was like that, once the city of White Plains decided to make some money by going after old parking tickets. Some of the old tickets where from over 10 years pasted. Many people claimed tickets where paid long ago, the judges would not hear any cases about these tickets, you had to supply proof they where paid.Everyday the newspaper printed letters from people, some didn't even own the type of car the tickets was written for. Of course I got a notice on 2 tickets from like 8 years passed. The date would have had me 17 years old living at home. My mom went to her files and pulled out canceled checks !!!!!!!
I am not quite that organized. It is mostly the garden purchases that I have filed in a binder. Hum, wonder why?
The rest of my life is tossed into boxes with tax papers going back to 1971 when we married. I did go through each and every box when I was looking for information regarding the property dispute.
Anything pertinent is at the lawyers. I am rotten with dates, but remember things very well. For example, old neighbor tore down a shared shed the second year I had chickens and I found the purchase order for those 100 cockerels so I know when the shed was removed from that 15 feet in question.
Receipts for garden purchases since 1971, Nyboy? That's where mine start, the year we were married and built our first house together. And yet, I can lose a receipt for something I bought yesterday . . . and find it again in another 20 years. Sigh!
