Picture Of The Week (POW) Information & Submissions

I hybridized somme Amaryllis flowers years ago. The seedlings are grown and now blooming like crazy.. What a great way to get through the cold spring with these blooms in my greenhouse. Everyday something new opens. Maybe not too special, but special to me.View attachment 34673

i try to time mine so they will bloom towards the end of March. i start watering one plant at a certain time and then each week from that time on i start watering a new one so that it helps space out the blooms. i only have the one kind so far. should have my first few blooms in the next few days.

also i've found out that putting the bulbs in a terra cotta pot delays them quite a while. perhaps the roots die back a lot more that ways than in the other pots i'm using (which are non-permiable).

I do not make any plans for their bloom time. I bring them in after a summer outdoors, allow the foliage to dry up. annd then start watering. They make their own magic!

35 degrees and very chilly today. But the crocus called me out with my camera.
