Dang it you got me too!!!! I hadn't finished reading the thread and I went and ordered magic Molly seed potatoes.
Thought I was strong........so strong. Nope I wasn't even to page 3 and I was clicking "confirm order".
At least it was just 1lbs. I hadn't ordered or grown any in 3 yrs. oh well at least I kept it to that.

I don't know about Bee but I have no interest at all in the spuds section. I've tried a few and I know what taters I'm growing. Now tomatoes, pepper, eggplant, a few other things, well maybe a bit. I'll try some paprika peppers this year and I've ordered some Thai pea eggplant seeds that should be here any day.

Not even a tickle of interest.
Taters are pretty basic here...they are just taters. My brother experiments with things like that and when I've eaten them they taste pretty much like.... taters. I like the old tried and true things in this world, so the plain ol' varieties that are easy to find and real cheap or free are fine for me. Now, if someone wanted to give me a handful of some fancy taters and I had an extra area of space in my garden that was not already designated for other things, I'd throw 'em in the ground and see what popped up, but to actually spend extra money on taters? Not if I can help it.

There is a old man on my street who sells his extra tomato seedlings. He has 2 kinds cooking and raw eating. I think you would like him Bee

That's where I went. Organic seed is not a big deal for me but Id rather support her than some of the bigger seed companies and operations out there. Johnny Seeds have them too. I just googled them.
For me I do it for fun. I've done pontiacs, kennebecks, Yukon golds, and a few others and had heaps of potatoes at harvest time. The ones I listed above are because I'm doing a raised bed for carrots, peas, and I'll expand it a bit to plant these into as well. If they taste like potatoes and they hold their color through the cooking process it's a win in my book. I hadn't been looking to do potatoes but the. Thread got me looking again.

Youin's ever heard of "chitting"? Our neighbors across the pond seem real intent on "chitting" their taters right now. Had to Google that....means sprouting, forever more. Apparently, these folks don't have root cellars, where taters will sprout just fine all on their own, and are sitting the potatoes in egg cartons and putting them here and there to get them to sprout? Don't know that I ever had to work to get a tater to sprout, just to KEEP them from sprouting.

I've only felt the need a couple of times.
Some of the companies must have scientifically monitored, top-drawer storage. Nuthin was goin on with their seed potatoes. Completely dormant!
When it's time for me to plant, I've got more than the one sleeper. It needs to catch up! So, I'm going to plunk it under 3" to 5" of 45°f dirt! How many weeks of the season is that variety behind the others? I need to wake it up.
It's easy, @Beekissed . Just bring those seed potatoes into my kitchen where it's warm and light. Some people like to cut the tubers and wait a day or two before plant. It might as well be in a warm kitchen. They don't take very long to start growing at 70°.
