Seed catalog

ooooh, i'm waiting on their catalog to arrive too! i really want to order from them next year! i have a few roses on my wish list from them. been hoping to get them from the local greenhouse but they don't seem to get the ones i like each year.

I just remembered that about 40 years ago I ordered 75 strawberry plants from Gurney. I was wondering how I got that catalog without a computer. I probably had been to the library, checked out Organic Gardening magazines, Rodale's and found Gurney's catalog to send off for. I would have had to wait for the catalog to get to my house and then order, put a check in and wait for them to get it and then to send the strawberry plants. My DB and I made strawberry jam.

If you order by Feb. 24, you get 15% off every time you order.

I want an orange one and probably a dark pink. I really like my Shrifa Asma and am seriously thinking of getting another one instead of the dark pink.

I've looked at their online catalog a few times.

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong but there doesn't seem to be very many southern seed companies. That outfit emphasizes southern choices altho that doesn't necessarily mean that they won't grow well elsewhere. But yes, I've given up on watermelon. Some more common garden species have regional favorite varieties. Okay, watermelon is not uncommon - just an ephemeral plant in my garden.

Honestly, a hybrid probably comes from a single location somewhere with low labor costs, anywhere in the world! No matter who sells it, it's coming from the same acre or two.

I know that hybrids are not what Southern Seed Exchange is all about. It's good to have these places with their special selections.

I bought a different variety of paprika pepper, sweet potato slips, and peanut seed from Southern Seed Exchange. Everything did reasonably well (in a hoop house here).

I put the peanuts out to dry for a couple weeks, but the rodents hauled them all off one day. Lots of shells in the wood pile.

The letter carrier has been so busy!

This week, these three: Osborne, Kitazawa and Fedco. Today, Territorial ... but, I haven't looked at it, yet.
