LOL no Cat I meant how do you know when the white ones are ripe, they start white.

I have never successfully grown a white one. But think they are ready when the skin toughens. (Not easily dented buy thumbnail) and the stem dries up.

I agree with Carol Dee. When the vines start declining and the rind toughens up.

They just look big. One already got soft and it went to the chickens. They love the seeds. They are supposed to be good for chickens in regard to worming them.

I'm impressed with their size. The whites I grew were maybe 1/2 that size

Cool, you can eat them and they're really good for you too! Yeah, c. pepo...definitely a squash/pumpkin, not a gourd family.

I don't know what but pumpkin not grow in my backyard. my neighbor grows it well you know. I feel so jealousy then
