So, how was your day?

I had a great day. I woke up next to beauty and love, my 3 yr old son and 2 yr old daughter and happiness my 13 yr old daughter. Days like that make the day worth it.

I woke up around 7 and made pancakes and after dishes and some house work we went out to let the chicks run around. We started our asparagus bed and I finally am getting my tiller tommorrow so I did alot of planning on www.growveg.com because when we pick up the tiller I will start planting!!!!!

We fed all the animals, cows,pony,rabbits,chickens,dogs,pigs and cats!! Then lunch and laundry! Then we enjoyed the antics of the chickens and the nice weather for awhile. After supper I planned the school work for tommorrow(I homeschool) and then relaxed with Dh and spending time on the computer now. Pretty much my day!!

Yesterday was one of those beautiful cold bright sunny blue and gold days in the Pacific NW. We seldom get such awesome days out here in Jan. Usually cold, wet, wet, cold, blustery, and oh, yes did I mention wet! But for some reason we are being rewarded with this blissfully sunny weather for today also!

Spent time outdoors checking all the projects that will need doing this spring before trimming all the perenniels starts in early April here. Need to measure and calculate how many tumbled bricks I need to re edge the herb garden. And the raised beds for the veggies need new edges this spring also. Thought we might use trex boards so they never rot out.

Most of the early afternoon DH and I just sat on the front porch soaking up the rays and warmth with the two aussies asleep by the front door. No sir, not too many days like this in January. Plan on another one today just like it!

Well its been snowing here for the last 2 days and since its the weekend it all works out being snowed in.
The kids are very happy to have a long weekend.
Today we are doing alot of baking, I have some bananas I have been letting get good and ripe to make banana bread.
I can never let them get ripe enough because the kids eat them within a day of me buying them.
I can never keep them in the house.
This time I bought alot, a few bunches of them and put some aside, so they are good and ready today.
Reinbeau posted a recipe on the ss forum for russian tea cakes and since I have all the ingredients on hand for those I am going to make those as well.
Plus they seem easy enough for children to help with.

I got 2 new chickens at the New England Poultry Congress on saturday and they are absolutely gorgeous.
I have been trying to get a pair of high quality Blue laced red wyandottes for quite a while and I found them at this show.
When you go to these shows you can really see the difference between the hatchery stock and the breeder stock. There is nothing wrong with hatchery stock at all but walking around these shows you can not imagine how beautiful these birds are.
You just want to pick them all up and take them home.

Yesterday, Sunday, I spent the better part of the day getting my daughter off to school again. The girls came home from college on their winter break, the oldest went back last weekend and the other went back yesterday.
Its always hard when they go back because even though there is 4 other kids here the house seems so empty and the little ones miss their big sisters.
After she was off to school I turned my attention to painting my beehives.
I had another hive and a bunch more supers and all the other odds and ends delivered on Friday and I wanted to get them painted and stored away.
This way hopefully the paint will be good and cured before I need to use them.
I still have more being delivered and I wanted to get these out of the way first so I don't get overwhelmed with stuff to paint.
I cannot believe how much room this stuff takes up.
Its fine once its set up in the yard, but before it is you have stacks of supers and boxes of equipment to store.
My husband boxed all the finished equipment up for me and put it away in the carriage house.

So anyway, thats what I did this weekend and what I am going to do today.

Today: Doing 5 loads of laundry by hand in the kitchen sink, because our drain lines are frozen in the laundry room. The genius who plumbed the laundry room septic outlet made it run through an inaccessible crawlspace on a northern outdoor wall. So I'm doing laundry by hand for the next few weeks until it thaws...

Once I have the sink empty, I'm going to make a chocolate-mint cake with meringue icing, run to the bank to deposit some checks, pick up the puppy from the vet, and make some sort of pasta for dinner. I got a KitchenAid mixer for my birthday, so I'm trying every attachment one by one.

I was so bored I transplanted some seedlings into bigger pots... found out I was lacking all the size pots I needed! ARGH!

We're expecting snow so I'm not going to drive out to get more pots for a couple more days. I hope they are ok until then.

I, however, back to being bored!!!!!!!

My day has been pretty good so far!! We did housework and laundry amd now we are off to the nursery to get some pots and some potting soil!! I probally will get more seeds and maybe some plants that I really shouldn't but oh well it is hard to resist!!! :watering

I'm kinda depressed. There's a lady who wants to buy my horse. Now I know he'll be better off with her because he'll have a job finally and it's honestly beginning to look like I'll never ride again but I raised him from a baby and I'll miss him. But in this economy I just can't afford a 2000 pound pet either.
Other than that the weather is spectacular here in Colorado. I can see the entire mountain range from my window and it's 70 degrees so my mind is on planting.

I hate to say it, Rosalind, but I'm happy to hear you have that problem, too! I have never heard of anyone else having their drain lines freeze up besides us. I'm looking forward to tomorrow because it's supposed to get into the 40s here, and if I pour boiling water down the drain, it will clear out the ice & I can do some laundry. Been waiting about 2 weeks!

Man that's tough farmerlor. I sold my mare that was my first horse and I had since she was weaned when I went to college because I knew I wouldn't be able to ride much. But boy do I regret it!! Wish I would have kept her even just for a pet. But oh well can't change the past. I would just make sure you really are ok with selling him. OTOH I completely understand the whole 2000 pound pet in this economy. I have just thought about all our animals and if they really served a purpose but there is one benefit they all have....POOP!! LoL
So most will stay.

Well I just made it back from the nursery and I only bought some bulbs and potting soil!! So I did good!! Planted 16 pots of onion and have 100 more pots of various things that I need to plant tonite. :coolsun
