Let me restate what I said earlier -- dahlia tubers are edible. Google it if you don't believe me. You can find recipes too, if you are curious.

No, I was not inferring that anyone here was planting dahlias to eat. I was agreeing that flowers can be nearly as important as food sometimes.

One thing I make with sage is butternut squash risotto. That's not exactly in-season though. I don't use my sage a lot either.

Hi big brown horse :frow here is a recipe for you to use some of your sage, this is a summertime favorite for us

Grilled Lemon-Sage Chicken

Marinade
1t olive oil
1 t grated lemon zest
1/4c fresh lemon juice
1/4 c chopped fresh sage leaves
1 T chopped fresh rosemary or 1 t dried
2 or 3 med cloves of garlic minced or 1 to 1 1/2 t bottled minced
1 t whole black peppercorns crushed
1/2 t salt

****************************************

6 boneless skinless chick breast
6 lemon slices cut in half
Fresh sage leaves for garnish

Combine marinade ingredients in plastic bag

Lightly flatten chicken to 1/4 " thickness. Add to marinade and turn to coat evenly. Seal bag and refrigerate for at least 30 min or overnight. (I usually do overnight or make it first thing in the morning of the day I'm making it)

Discard marinade
Preheat grill to med-high.
Grill chicken 6-7 min per side or until done
Garnish with lemon slices and sage
Enjoy :happy_flower

The amounts given are just guidelines I always use more garlic but we love garlic

Day lily tubers are also edible, but a total pain to clean.

Deep fried sage leaves you say??

I need a deep fryer all of a sudden!
I've done this before...use an oil that has almost no taste though. Crispy and delicious! Better than potato chips!:drool

OMG you can eat dahlia bulbs? ..I got confused and thought that I said you could eat them when really I did not know ..see what happens when you are doing 15 things and trying to follow an online thread? ...go figure! as expensive as they are (if you buy them) I think I will hold off on that a bit... but that is good to know if I get the urge ..wonder if they are healthier than a potato?

and lillies ..I just love learning things!

deep fried sage leaves are to die for imo ...good point on the using a neutral oil....I just love them crumbled or whole as a garnish on food!

you can deep fry kale and make chips too but I like those better in the oven tossed in olive oil and baked until crispy spinach too ...(ok Dinner lets get done my tummy is growling again)

I love anything deep fried I think :)

and dinner is my favorite meal of the day!

Pesto pasta with homegrown eggplant, yellow squash and zucchini. Pesto made from homegrown basil, of course.
It was soooooo good!
Tomorrow we're having green beans, more eggplant and more zucchini!
AND I think I might have my first red cherry tomato tomorrow. Yes, just one. The others are still green. :drool
