This is my pond. It's not a very big one but I have had it for a long time. My problem is The box my pond pump is in is always getting clogged up with leaves where the water goes in on the top of the box and the eventually the box starts floating. I don't want to put weight in it because I'm afraid if I do when the leaves clog it up that the pump will burn out. I have replaced the pump a couple of times. This pump isn't supposed to do that but I'm not sure about it. How can I keep the leaves off of the pump box lid. Does anyone else have this problem?

@cmom Happens here all the time. Only way to keep it from happening is constant watching and removal of debris as it starts to build up. Yes a pain in the hinny!) But one year we where not vigilant and leaves clogged filter/pump and the fish DROWNED!!!! Well about 3/4 of them 
We have tried to place netting or screen over pond only to have it fall in under weight of falling leaves or blow off in wind.

With that type, you could get AC filter floss, the loose blue rectangles. And cut it a little larger than the top of that grate, cut a hole in the center and slip it on.
Make a couple of these and swap them out regularly, if you have no fish. Rinse, dry and reuse.
If you have fish, rinse the dirty pad and reuse it.
They don't make leaf baskets for those types of filters.

Chillin' In The Garden
I had fish but not now. I have trees that are constantly dropping leaves not deciduous and they clog my pump box. My husband is researching other ways to circulate the water where the leaves may not be much of an issue. I have to daily clean the leave out. I could put a net over the pond but would have to probably clean it out daily, so looking for another way.

Bottom line a nice pond is a lot of work.
