However, cheating ... since the greens are from the hoop house over 2 backyard beds. Double cheat ... I even put some heat in there on the colder mornings. Had to protect tomato starts in there!

And now, Choy Sum.

Once again, cheating - out of the hoop house. Aaand, as best as I understand it, there is no actual veggie variety known to the Chinese as Choy Sum. It's an ingredient and means something like "flower vegetable."

We have had one variety for years and I haven't been happy with more recent purchases because the ones I have found were too tiny! Since many are hybrids and I saved seed, I may not have plants like what I purchased from Kitazawa or Evergreen, years ago. Oh well, it matters not at all at the dinner table ;). Furthermore, a Brassica rapa is, in Wikipedia words, "... a plant consisting of various widely cultivated subspecies including the turnip (a root vegetable); napa cabbage, bomdong, bok choy, and cime di rapa (leaf vegetables) ..." Seems like we can choose and call them what we want.
