I completely disassembled my 3' x 6' salad garden bed to be used as Eva's gravesite. I still have broken cattle fencing from the direchio and limbs falling on it from 2 years ago on the fence 12 ft from the street, south yard. I messed up a mower and had to have it repaired bc I didn't see the fencing and hit it with the blades. It disconnected the cord that is the choke. All repaired now.
I took the two 2" x 6" boards from the torn apart bed and put them in front of it to prevent this in the future.
I harvested 64 garlic bulbs and yesterday I removed the tomatoes that I had staged in a 40 water tank for transplanting. I got 4 of them transplanted. Several of them grew together, but they are so leggy that I will them stay that way, since I broke one leader trying to separate them. I am only planting 6 tomatoes on each 12 ft long fencing, lots of room to spread out.
The tomatoes already have fruit/flowers, and I will harvest two small Early Girl tomatoes to eat today, just to say we did.
I would Like to say that I cleared the north fence line and east fence line of trees and burdock and other weeds, but my neighbor did That for me, although I did some initial tree cutting. (see my thread for pictures)
DH and I mowed the 3 acre north pasture. It looks like a golf course.

Sprayed the dahlias with Spinosad.

This is about as bad a year for earwigs as ever. I can hardly move a rock or wood chip in the garden beds without having an earwig or 2 crawl out. Probably, I should have sprayed the Tiara cabbage a week or so ago. It may not have mattered much; they grow and mature so quickly to their small harvest size that the damage was only to the outer leaves. Besides, even with an organic spray, I'd rather spray ornamentals than food crops.

Spraying a week or so ago would have been a good idea for the dahlias. Some of the plants have quite damaged leaves. Well, a few dahlias are beginning to bloom now and the flowers are a happy feast for the earwigs. Enough, already!

i know that feeling...

i have some deer coming through here late at night (must be between 2-4am as i'm rarely up at that time).

and then yesterday when i went out to weed inside the fenced garden there was a small rabbit in there - which explains some of my recent losses.

At home physical therapist is a deer hunter.
We plan to do swapsies this Fall, deer meat for beef ribs.
He also owns a big smoker.
There are solutions to all problems.

There’s a lot of deer hunters during the season in Oregon too. However , it’s illegal to hunt anywhere near here. I’ve chased many deer off down the road on my rider mower using my air gun the sound scares them off, but they are usually right back the next day. Some times we play hiding go seek back and forth across the driveway trees as I chase them out and away from the garden. They are not scared of me until I shoot off the air gun. I know when and where they will show up and chase them off on my mower shooting the air gun at them like Annie Oakley.. LOL Somehow it’s all way too satisfying especially knowing all the plants they devour every day. I’ve even stopped by the rode side next to one that had been hit by a car.. set out flares so the animal won’t be hit again. Call animal pick up and just sit and wait for someone to show up.

I have been out hunting for deer and ducks, it’s not my cup of tea. Deer have a different taste, but cooked up with lots of carrots , gravy and mashed potatoes it seems to help . I do love to fish and catch a few wild salmon or trout during season in Oregon and cook up in a beer batter.

Out on the trails up in the wilderness near here I could ride my horses up in the mountains to where the deer and antelope feed and hang in a small meadow. On a horse you can get very close to them and ride right thru a herd of deer or antelope if your quiet and move slowly , no problem. Now how many people get the chance to do that‼️

Now how bout those deer that think my garden is their private salad bar? Speaking of deer it’s almost time to get my Annie Oakley boots on and go out and harass the deer.

ps: take it easy on your new knee. Ouchies will diminish , soon you’ll be ready to dance all night.
