the green is odyssey and the red is skyphos both are from stokes seeds.

yes i was very happy with the lumber when they delivered it,only 1 piece had a bad knot use it for the ends so was able to cut it out.

I much prefer the dwarf, Shanghai type.

And, the Boston type lettuce ! Why would anyone grow heavy bok choy and tough lettuce? Oh yeah , I've got Romaine lettuce so as to go as far as I can into summer . . .

yup mei qing choi and have joi choi as well.

the dw notice that there a spot open in one of the beds a she purchased a couple packs of lettuce seed at lowes romaine and iceberg.

my doctor told me the other day to cut back on fatty foods and get more exercise and eat more veggies.
told her about whats in the garden this year, she said you have the last two covered, work on the first one. see you in 6 months.

nothing like fresh veggies.

Snow melted! Planted peas, onions and radishes. Dinosaur Kale and Chinese cabbage in the greenhouse. Hard to believe had 9 inches of snow on thurs May 2

I didn't do a darn thing in the garden! In fact, I refuse to plant another seed until we start to have warm weather! Other than the tomatoes that I lost to that frost, everything I started inside is just sitting there. The seeds that I planted directly in the garden have sprouted - and a few actually have gone so far as to grow 1 or 2 true leaves, but other than that NOTHING is growing. Every now and then we get an afternoon that's in the low 70's but we've pretty much has 40's-50's at night and 50's-60's during the day. How's a garden supposed to grow like that!!! I remember the first weekend of May last year it was so hot!! I've still got the heat on in the house!!! I suppose that I should be very, very greatful that we're not getting SNOW like some folks.. But it's just that the only thing growing here is grass! Yup, the grass is doing great! I'm already heading into that season where I might need to mow it 2x a week to keep it from looking like a jungle

Don't you worry dear, as soon as it warms it will all grow like rockets! I planted really early, and everything accept my cool season plants are growing slower then slow. But the few warms days we had now and then, they took off like a shot and then back to a crawl. Warmer days will come soon I'm just as bummed as you are, we're in a warmer climate and these days really bum me out because we've been below normal for WEEKS now.

Because of that late frost we had, my peach trees were covered in 100's of blooms at the time, I went out and counted to find only about a dozen peaches on 3 trees. I'm extremely disappointed. My apples bloomed late though, and I have to say I've never had more then a small handful of apples before, this year we lost count and there are probably over 100 between 3 of our trees (1 oddly never bloomed at all?).

Cane, there really are some things you can plant now.

Peas.
Try planting some Alaska Peas for shelling or for dry. They'll grow a couple feet tall in two months. Alaska is a good strong little variety. I put a few in just for garden munchies. After I have them producing for a couple weeks I'll remove most of them and put more bush Beans where they were.

Summer Radishes
Another quick one to plant before other things that can finish in time to put something else in.

Lettuce
Practically any variety is good for a quick early picking, and if you want, you can plant a patch just for your Chickens. Not sure if they still have it, but Shumway's seeds used to have a variety of Lettuce just for Chickens. Oh heck, I never grew that variety, but the way they described it, my guess is that it was simply a mix of similar leaf Lettuces that was not especially selected for bolt resistance, just quick leaf growth.

Kale, Kohlrabi
That Lacinato Dinosaur Kale is tough for planting almost any time, and Kohlrabi is always fun to grow. It is so cool to actually discover the best planting window for something like Kohlrabi. I grew some in Montana, my first try, and got those nice above ground bulbs. Then I started picking them to munch on. I discovered that they seem to be made in layers, lol. The skin, aaah, ok, edible, barely. Just inside the skin, ok, kind of tough. Chew through and swallow. Then, that sweet and really good nice and deep layer! Smooth texture, me like, yummmz! Then there is a central heart. Ya know, my guess is that would be good too, probably if it was put into soup or mashed and mixed with potatoes or in some recipe. That heart center is smaller or bigger depending on when it is picked I guess.

You might try finding the right window for turnip planting.

Beets (Seeds) are now in their 3'x12' bed!! I planted Detroit, Golden and Cylindrical beets. I amended the compost with wood ashes about a month ago, so everything was pretty fluffy.

as for the rosemary seed that was started well there is life in there, since i took them out to the greenhouse, as for the cuttings they look very happy in the bathroom, oh update on the dw cuttings using cinnamon all dead.

Major- your gardens look fabulous! I am green with envy! I planted some more seeds tonight. They are calling for a few rainy days, so I though I would get them in- and let mother nature water them...
