What's Your Favorite Outdoor Smell?

There are so many wonderful smells this time of year that I get sensory overload sometimes. The peppery smell of some weed along the roadside, sun-warmed strawberries, the antique roses when they all bloom at once....My favorite is a new one for me this year: I was on my knees pulling weeds from the bean plants next to a portion of garden that I had mulched with pine needles. The sun was warming up the pine, the scent mingling slightly with the smell from the dill, thyme, yarrow and oregano that was growing nearby.
Oh My!
It actually reminded me of the lower notes of the cologne that I have worn for years, the reason I wear it. It was like coming home.
I have always been a very olfactory person. DH says I have the nose of a bloodhound. Not sure if that is a compliment.

What is your favorite outdoor smell?

Oddly enough... the smell of a horse's coat warmed by the sun.
I used to lay on my old mare's back with my face against her neck while she grazed...

The smell of artemisia at twilight.... nicotiana.... antique roses.... moist, finished compost.

Fresh mow hay or grass. Pine forest. Lilies in full bloom.

i have to agree on the sweet spicy scent of the wild/antique roses. lily of the valley when in bloom. the smell of fresh pine shavings after a coop clean-out. the smell of chicken feathers after they've enjoyed the fresh pine shavings. oh and bbq is always a good smell, especially when hungry!

The swamp/ wet deciduous forest smell has to be my favorite. It's really a combination of all kinds of stuff, I would have to say a cross between the smell of pond sludge and rain with a sweet overtones, hard to describe. Kind of odd, I know.

The sweet smell over a big bed of camomile in full bloom has to be another one of my favorites.

Oh, and the smell of tomato plants! Don't know why but I like it.

Cane beat me to it, one of my favorite smells is horses. Horse hair, horse sweat, even horse manure. I love all things horse and if I could bottle that smell, I bet a lot of cowboys would buy it, so the cowgirls would flock to them. Forget about cologne, just go rub up against a sweaty horse!

Gardenia, love gardenia. I love the fresh smell after a rain. Corn tassels smell so sweet! Yaupons in bloom. I can remember being in the Rio Grande Valley visiting my Grandma, when the orange trees were in bloom. Mmmmmm....

Puppies breath. But not after they become dogs!

Horse. Linden trees in bloom. A hug from dh hen he gets home after working in new construction- eau d' new lumber!
Bread baking in the winter.
