In my family ..

. combined families crossed generational lines.

Aunt marries Brother
Nephew marries Sister

Generational lines, except the ages are nearly the same for the spouses. If I remember right, Brother was something of an old guy at marriage. He was a Civil War veteran (southerner) and probably that was seriously disruptive to his life.

Nephew and Sister didn't have long lives. Aunt Sis lived well into the 20 Century and was known to her nephew and sister-in-law's grandchildren. Still by that name, "Aunt Sis."

My mom and dad were step brother and sister...but it's really not as icky as it sounds.

My dads dad was a widower, my moms mom was practically a widow (my moms father abandoned her mom and 4 kids when my mom was in grade school) and they married a year before my mom and dad met. Dad was in the Navy at the time.
They had both attended the same high school but dad was 4 years older than mom, so they didn't really know each other until their parents married.
So I only had one set of grandparents, and only knew my great grandparents on my moms side.
