We are relieved to know it, @Carol Dee .

Now, about the new TEG member @Phaedra Geiermann . If we click on your location, we see that Schleiden is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. That is right against the border with Belgium.

In the US, we are see news about the tremendous flooding in Germany and Belgium. We can see that Phaedra has also not been on TEG since Sunday. I have to wonder about her absence and that beautiful garden. Was that family and garden in the flood zone???

Steve
Thanks Steve, yes, we are in the flood zone and the neighborhood is quite badly destroyed. We are lucky that our house is not too close to the small river (at that flooding day, it is no longer a small one, it became a 4m beast) and located in a comparatively higher slope. I am grateful for my garden, because I planted so many things, I checked weather forecast and warning every day, so I tried to seal the ventilation windows with sandbags and plastic sheets from outside, those successfully prevented water to flush inside our basement.

We lost the power and internet for 3 days, but as we have two big freezers and a small gas stove (which is not common here) and our garage is also safe from the flood, we immediately started to shop and provide hot drinks and warm meals for firefighters, police, and some families whose houses were seriously damaged.

Today most of the families have their electricity back, and the local church started to provide free warm meals, we felt much much relief, and I can go back to harvest some good veggies for ourselves, too.

Air Quality is going to Heck, again. I'm not sure how we were lucky in having relatively good air for so many recent days with 1,000's of acres of wildfires.

There was one bad day where the numbers just jumped right past "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" and right into "Unhealthy." That's where it's at this morning. The air changes so quickly with the source of smoke so close. Additionally, the fires pool smoke into the lower elevations and later, that can move . The sun is almost hidden in an orangy gray sky.

The COVID situation for DW and me is that we are not supposed to let our guard down in the slightest, by doctor's orders. He's the specialist and everything that those people are saying is the same for us.

Indoors elsewhere? Only masked up and socially distancing. Outdoors? Outta the question.

We got a whole 48 hours without rain last week but now it’s back again. We’re already over average rain total for the month again. Just got and inch in 20 minutes just from a regular pop up thunderstorm. We’ve gotten 44% of our average yearly rainfall during the first 3 months of our drier season. Normally it’s winter that’s so soggy.

Our average annual rainfall is 63". We already have had over 60" this year. We are about 24" ahead of where we should be. At the end of February we were a bit behind for the year but that has changed. So, yeah, it's been kind of wet. Sure wish I could send some of this out further west where they really could use it.

Montana is cooking today but I "think" that they don't have a big fire problem. Arizona had some big rainstorms. There are some fires in California. From my little part of the world ... I know about a big fire in southern Oregon (east of the Cascades) and the ones up here (including British Columbia).

I'm sorry but it won't be free sailing for some of you with recent plentiful rain. Here's a WS map with tomorrow's forecast of smokey skies for the pilots to be concerned with:

Dry as a bone. Water restrictions in the SF bay area. Mask requirements 'round the corner. Lawns are dying in all neighborhoods, except the rich ones who don't mind the fines imposed on them.

At home, the chlorine shortage curtailed alot of watering. Now that its resolved, we still have voluntary water restrictions.

The Ag water has been turned off in three towns around Medford. That means NO WATER for the hay fields and alfalfa and pears in many communities.

we've been getting out early and getting things done and then pretty much hiding inside the rest of the day. yesterday there was a nice breeze which helped keep me outside for a bit longer, but in the end the heat and humidity win. and, well, i'm now officially spoiled by having the AC. if i can't acclimate to the heat then my lungs react too badly when i go inside and back outside too often. i'll start wheezing like an old accordion.
I just can't sleep with this heat. So will be following your footsteps again my friend.

I'll fill up my water can and sort the chickens out. I just cant stand this heat and this is with the windows left open. A plane has very quietly gone overhead even the pilots cant sleep.
