    Bottom rot

Despite my attempts at prevention, I've noticed one of my tomato plants is brown/black and boggy on the bottom (bottom end rot?). What can I do for them? I think I've heard that a weak solution of powdered milk would work?

    Sunflower question

My sunflowers are going crazy, but I noticed quite a few of the lower leaves are turning brown. New leaves are growing just above all the brown ones-is htis normal? If not, what can I do for them?:/

    Getting tomatoes to set fruit?

Really? That is our average, has crept up to over a hundred degrees recently. Will they set when it "cools" (not that it is back in the 90's)?

    Getting tomatoes to set fruit?

All of my maters have flowered, but only a few have fruit. Do I need extra fertilizer? If so, what do you reccommend (note-I don't want to use chemicals)?:happy_flower

    Cauliflower Demise

I have nutured, and successfully grown a cheddar cauliflower from seed. It was robust, and had just set it's first "fruit", when I walked out the other morning and found it had been completely destroyed by little lime green, velvet-y catipillars (with what looks like spun silk under their...

Using straw on the BOTTOM of raised beds

Just glancing over the post... I swear by raised bed (square foot) gardening, initially not by bad back, but by bad soil and laziness. Now I can join the bad back club!:/ See my post-I am a complete cheerleader of this form of gardening. That said, the bottoms of my raised SFG are linseed...

    Cucumber unhappiness

So the one is thriving, the other seems to be makinga slight come back. If it is blight, should I pull it immediately? I also gave seedlings to a friend, and hers are ok so far...should I warn her, or...very confusing....:/

    Cucumber unhappiness

I grew Diva Cucs from seed this year. One plant is thriving, already has tiny little cucs on it. 3 others in another planter have died, and although one is doing sort of ok,many of it's leaves are dry and brown around the edges. I have replaced the dead ones with seedlings form a local nursery...

    Mulch question

Based on all of your great input, this is my plan... I have the shredded bark around the tomaotes. I have planted radishes around the cucs, zucchine, squash, and will lightly mulch with straw after they pop up. I'll continue to keep an eye out for bugs, and I'll also start looking through the...

    Mulch question

And the mulch around the cucs, squash and such won't give the bugs a place to hide, grow etc?

    Mulch question

I've just mulched around all of my tomato plants, but I have planted radishes around the cucumbers and squash, so I don't mulch, right? I know this seems simple, but I have confused myself....
