Hello from the Northwoods of Minnesota

LOL! I know it sounds unbelievable but you DO get used t it :)

Our winter this year hasn't been cold either until about a week ago when we suddenly dropped into the double digit negatives! I worry about my horses but so far they seem to be doing ok.

:hugs Finally someone I can discuss winter with nary a trace of zone envy.

Hi, @CSigmund, welcome to TEG!

And, of course, we can dress for the weather and be comfortable. My down-filled parka goes a long way toward beating the cold.
BEST Christmas present my husband ever got me was my Carhart bibs and jacket!! Good to have some one here who can understand my winter gardener woes!

With you there! I've always told my students (ex-educator here) that being warm and properly dressed for winter weather is COOL! Looking fashionable and freezing is not cool! I was the only teacher prepared to take her students out for recess during the coldest parts of Wisconsin's winters. The other teachers insisted that any temperature or combination of wind chill and temperature below 10 degrees (F) was too cold for their poor babies.

Given the choice, most of my 4th and 5th graders wanted OUT for fresh air at recess time whatever the temperature.

When I lived in Denmark back in the 80's, one of the options was the forest kindergarten. Consider it a preschool where most of the time is spent outdoors in the forest regardless of weather. Because Denmark is surrounded by water (at least the island where Copenhagen is located) the weather is not nearly as brutal as you see with your continental climate, but consecutive days or weeks below freezing at a time and the ground covered wit snow is fairly typical in the winter.

Hey @Smart Red don't forget me! I am just a short hope south to Eastern IA. It is COLD this last few days. Below zero nights and single digit days. UGH. @CSigmund where about in MN do you live? Best coat I ever owned was a Carhart. :) I had a job transporting school lunches (23 years!) from the High School kitchen to 2 elementariness. Which involved being outside in ALL weather conditions. The poor old lift would freeze and barely move in cold weather so one had to be prepared to be out in it. Brrr. Glad to only be in the bus now (Well when the heater is working.)

As you said, Carol Dee, you are a Southerner -- South of me that is. You are right, though, it has been the coldest days of winter so far and hopefully the coldest winter will get this year.
