Hire a high school kid you can supervize rather then risk more damage to back
Nephew and his friend are supposed to be over this evening and tomorrow to work on clearing brush and fence lines. They are seniors this year so they have a lot of distractions about right now. Hope they show up though they are hard workers.

i messed my lower back up yesterday just putting something into the car for Mom. yep, it was early morning and i hadn't moved much yet. gonna be like you for a while, taking it careful until it recovers... this is first time in several years. i won't say you jinxed me here @Collector, i know better, but at least we can grumble in sympathy... :)

some year they'll have it figured out how to redesign the spine so it won't have such issues...

Just some advice since I am on a roll with this. Put down cardboard to kill your weeds! NOBODY is allergic to it and it smothers them AND paper is the largest item that we throw away in our garbage. You can feel environmentally superior.

it's a very easy method to recondition a strawberry patch, put down cardboard, mulch over it. leave a few plants along the edge to grow back in or poke a few in some holes through. done. much quicker than weeding.

even if you don't have mulch you can still put the cardboard down and put some dirt over it.

lol about the env. sup...

Yesterday I filled in a low area, well it was where the asparagus was and it is just not working out. I put a lot of rabbit manure and old straw and then dug out the last of the compost from the bin and covered the straw and manure up and added some sacked topsoil and chicken manure from Walmart. I am going to transplant flowers from other areas of the yard and put there and let them reseed and transplant to other areas next year. The herb garden in front needs to be tilled and all the weeds out and a lot of manure and then replanted. I pulled all the old kale and collard plants, pulled weeds and made a big decision. No tilling this year. The garden is my thing now and not me and DH. He liked to garden, but DS is not interested and he has a full time job, he has house repairs, he mows the grass, he has firewood to move, so to rent a tiller would be expensive. The neighbor said we can use his, but it was the same as the one we had and DS would be tilling forever with it and we would still have to go get manure and unload. I decided to buy a half load of organic composted cow manure 2 years old and they deliver and dump. Since I want to get in shape, well lol I will be doing a lot of work and not DS. I can work on each area. I have to learn to do things different. I do not need a lot of squash plants or cucumber plants. DD will eat a few, not sure about SIL. DD is planning on making her own baby food, so I am going to have a few different winter squash. Babies eat green beans and the whole family likes green beans. Kale, collards and Swiss chard will be important. I will plant a few cabbage and I like to make sauerkraut in quart jars. I may plant peas just for fun. I have not made up my mind about potatoes, but I think I will have plenty of room. I have way too many pepper plants again, less cherry tomatoes. DS said he will build a box for me and try a new place for asparagus.

@Gardening with Rabbits we did make our own baby food. We cubed up our bigger veggies and smaller veggies we did whole. We steamed them till soft and then put them into the food processor. I would add the left over water from steaming them to help get the consistency we wanted and then froze it in ice cube trays.

Once frozen we popped them out of the tray and stored them in the freezer. We would take with us any food we wanted and you'd be surprised where you can find a microwave to warm the food with.

We pureed meats too. Fruit we pureed and a little splash of water water to help get the texture right. Everything from green beans, to chicken, leafy greens, various types of squash, peaches, berries etc. Saved us a ton of money doing it that way. It doesn't take long to get a big batch of baby food made up. Plus each ice cube was 1oz so if the Dr ever asks if you know how many cubes on average the child is eating you know how much they are eating.
