I don't think transplanting beans would be really all that difficult, it just isn't something I had ever much considered before.

Lima sprouts are certainly brittle though and big! It looked like the birds were really after the seed leaves or maybe even the seed coat that was still attached caught their eye, but in the process they broke the stems.

Growing to transplant and waiting till plants are a little bigger with more true leaves before setting out, might be a good way to avoid such damage in the future.

Keeping a bean theme going, I found 8/12 of my Minnie Shatterly and got them corralled in one area.

We had a bad storm here today. These were the rare Chestnut Flavored beans. I never got around to putting something in place for protection. Once again, procrastination bites me in the tush. I'm down to 9 seeds remaining.

There's always a silver lining. One of my other rare beans Oaxacan Cream survived without a scratch.

A question, are there many bean varieties that have red veins in their leaves?
Sarah's Old Fashioned Black has now germinated and is now planted out, not only have they the darkest green leaves I've ever seen, the leaves at least the first ones have red veins. @Bluejay77 have you ever run into this or is this quite common in some varieties?

@aftermidnight, Yes I've seen reddish veining in some beans. Can't remember which ones. I don't think there are a huge number of varieties that have red veining. It's does exist though. Will have to stark keeping notes on varieties everytime I run into red veining in them.

I really love the veining in purple podded beans. It's really strinking against the green leaves.

Some new beans that I got a couple of days ago from my bean friend in Liebenfels, Austria. Will have to wait until next year to plant them. I believe all of them are pole beans.
