i've only bought one new car and the experience went ok. the car was a very basic Honda Civic with no bells and whistles other than i added AC because i knew i would be doing a lot of driving in the summers around the country. when we were done the salesman told me he was making about $500 from the deal and i thought that was fair. it was about 25% off the sticker price to me out the door including title/taxes/plates.

there was a chip in the windshield that i had repaired at their expense, and i made sure to get that in writing before i left, because sure enough when i called to get them to send the payment they tried to balk on it. i was planning on heading out of town soon so i told them i'd be there in 20minutes to pick up the check and that was the last of that. i bought a tent, sleeping bag, pad for sleeping on the ground, a tarp and had a few pillows and off i went driving around and camping for the next 6 months.

within a few weeks i had a truck in front of me have a rock fall off the bumper that they didn't clean off and it was a bad bounce which put a nice ding in the hood. if it had hit the windshield directly it would have probably broke it. my baby! but i really enjoyed driving that car other than the lack of cruise control on the highways.

i had it for over 20yrs with no major issues but when i sold it it was showing the wear and tear of being parked outside for most of that time. i still sold it for a decent price considering the engine was in prime condition and probably had a few hundred thousand more to go. about 10% of original price.

after doing hours upon hours upon hours of research on used suv's mainly the Toyota highlander and the Nissan pathfinder with a little time looking at Honda pilot and Subaru forester.

researching every dealership with in a 45 minute drive of the house that had certified per-owned vehicles, they ranged from $31-35 k with 59-61 k miles on them, of course all of them the warranty has run out, plus reading the carfax reports on them.. a couple where local, some where auction vehicles.

with all this research being done came to a conclusion why cough up all this money for a 3 year old vehicle yes they had all the bells and whistles, that you really had no idea how they were driven over the years or were they in an accident not reported or possibility in a flood or areas that really used salt on the roads during wintertime....

so this morning dw and i went down to the carpet place and looked over floor covering for the laundry room
we have a couple ideas to go with. we need something that will be bullet proof since thats the main entry..

decided since we were out it was time to get the ball rolling, we drove over to the local nissan dealership

so now i need to take care of a few things before i sell big red...as the dw said no reason to have a truck thats only going to sit there....i agree
Lovely! I too decided the used car direction was not for me. I like having around 5 years in a car without having to do much more than maintenance to it.

My oldest boy used to work at a department store selling small appliances. He was was moved to selling jewelry since he could connect to the customers but he was not selling enough extended warranties in appliances. If extended warranties are that profitable to the store how much good do they do me? I won't say I never buy an extended warranty but I buy very few.

When I bought my fridge 3 1/2 years ago the 3 year additional warrant was close to $1000. I failed after 3 1/2 years so the 3 year warrantee would not have been any good. The 2 most expensive parts of a fridge are covered for 5 and 10 years by the manufacturer. So I had to pay for the labor. Under $400 so I was ahead go the game. No longer do refrigerators last 20 years.

My fridge is 18 years old and still runs fine...:hide
It's a Frigidaire. Probably a fluke.
My dishwasher is also a Frigidaire and it's a piece of junk, which doesn't really matter since I never use it.
