Baymule’s 2020 Garden

I haven’t planted purple hulls yet. I have the cool season stuff in one patch. When it’s done(soon) I’ll pull it all up and plant my beloved purple hull PEAS! My beets are getting ready, I’ll be canning spiced pickled beets soon. My onions are dying back, time to pull them too. Broccoli is about done. I probably have one more good picking of English peas.

it is funny, what you are finishing up with we are just about to get ready to plant... enjoy the harvest! i also love the process of putting things up.

Bay, are you seeing a difference in production every years since you started amending your soil?

Mary

Oh my yes! Picture planting a garden in a sand dune and that is my soil. All the amendments we have done has greatly improved the soil, resulting in stronger healthier plants. The harvest has greatly increased. Not everything I plant lives or produces for varying reasons, mostly bugs. But enough makes vegetables for me to be happy.

Yesterday I picked another wash pan of English peas and there are still peas out there. My husband shelled them while I pulled beets. I trimmed the tops off and tossed the tops to the pigs. A neighbor came over so I didn’t get them put up. By the time she left it was supper time and I had to come up with something to eat. LOL I will get them put up today. We got a half inch of rain last night, good for the garden and good for the pastures.

Would y’all believe that the dadburned blankety-blank WEEDS are growing under the weed cloth?? Are you kidding me?

Today I set out corn plants and reached under the weed cloth through the holes I cut for the corn, and pulled out all I could reach. Crabgrass, poke, goatweed, lambs quarters, giant ragweed, to name a few. I do have to say that the weed cloth has made a REMARKABLE difference. Take a look at this.

Wow. My husband pulled weeds today while I planted the corn. He pulled 4 wagon loads, there is still plenty left. The Sheep loved them, even though we don’t.

I picked more English peas, I figure they are done. All together I got 14 bags of peas in the freezer. I also pulled the onions, they were ready.

It started storming, we got 2” of rain in 2 hours and it is still raining. That’s good for the garden!

Yes, some weeds understand how to get around weed cloth.

(Shouldn't that be a black fabric? I'm not really familiar with any of the products.) I gave up on weed cloth when bindweed and quakegrass happily traveled under my 2' paths from one garden bed to another. I don't want to know how far they could go ...

Sounds like you have the early crops for the kitchen. Now, for the later!
