What an experience ...

Thanks Steve, yes, we are in the flood zone and the neighborhood is quite badly destroyed. We are lucky that our house is not too close to the small river (at that flooding day, it is no longer a small one, it became a 4m beast) and located in a comparatively higher slope. I am grateful for my garden, because I planted so many things, I checked weather forecast and warning every day, so I tried to seal the ventilation windows with sandbags and plastic sheets from outside, those successfully prevented water to flush inside our basement.

We lost the power and internet for 3 days, but as we have two big freezers and a small gas stove (which is not common here) and our garage is also safe from the flood, we immediately started to shop and provide hot drinks and warm meals for firefighters, police, and some families whose houses were seriously damaged.

Today most of the families have their electricity back, and the local church started to provide free warm meals, we felt much much relief, and I can go back to harvest some good veggies for ourselves, too.

Montana is cooking today but I "think" that they don't have a big fire problem. Arizona had some big rainstorms. There are some fires in California. From my little part of the world ... I know about a big fire in southern Oregon (east of the Cascades) and the ones up here (including British Columbia).

I'm sorry but it won't be free sailing for some of you with recent plentiful rain. Here's a WS map with tomorrow's forecast of smokey skies for the pilots to be concerned with:

Our average annual rainfall is 63". We already have had over 60" this year. We are about 24" ahead of where we should be. At the end of February we were a bit behind for the year but that has changed. So, yeah, it's been kind of wet. Sure wish I could send some of this out further west where they really could use it.

We were inundated with rain here just a few weeks ago. Now my back garden is dry and burnt

Yes, sad. And some more rain is coming during weekend, hopefully it won't cause further troubles.

We have had timely rains this summer. Everything is green instead of crunchy. Temperatures are in the low 90’s instead of bumping up to 100. I am enjoying this!

I just can't sleep with this heat. So will be following your footsteps again my friend.

I'll fill up my water can and sort the chickens out. I just cant stand this heat and this is with the windows left open. A plane has very quietly gone overhead even the pilots cant sleep.

aww... it was really the perfect day here yesterday in terms of temperature and having a breeze. today will be a little warmer and i need to get out and have some watering done and then whatever else i feel like doing. rotate the garlic set some rat traps, check the mole trap, weeding, watering. that's plenty enough to keep me busy.

i hope they won't as i didn't think it normally got that dry there that wildfires were common? i don't ever recall in my lifetime a single weather report of a wildfire in the UK. aside from fires in cities have they happened (other than intentionally set fires)?

I learned a new adjective this morning, "slumberous." @Marie2020 's dog is slumberous because of the heat. Marie is not ... but, may need a day napping when her weather cools.

We had some rain, yesterday morning. All of .07 of an inch. By 10AM, I was out mowing the lawn and didn't even have wet shoes when I finished. Some locations had more rain but they were few and the storms came with lightning strikes, so ...

Initial higher humidity meant that the smoke was more noticeable at first but the odor decreased as the air cleared. The WS tells us that this will not continue through this much cooler day. Right now, it's 53°f (12°C) so I'm pulling some outside air through the house at a slower rate than lately. May not need the AC this afternoon. The Weather Service was a little off on recent high temperatures - it was the low 90's instead of the high 90's. I hope that their prediction for the weekend is a similar too pessimistic forecast of high 90's.

Going out shopping this AM. Don't want to waste these cooler hours indoors. Trips to garden may be on the same schedule as 2020, dependent on both temperature and smoke.

For me down here at 11:00 this morning as forecast
Temp = 89 F (32 C), Dew Point = 78 F (26 C), Humidity = 69%, Feels Like = 102 F (39 C).

I can believe that, it's steamy when I step outside. If a forecast scattered thunderstorm hits nearby this afternoon the temperature should drop a few degrees so the feels like is only 100 F (38 C).
