Don’t feel like the Lone Ranger, I don’t have a stellar garden either. Wacko weather has affected lots of gardens. In spite of the weather, your garden is doing decent. As usual I have a bumper crop of weeds. Too bad they aren’t edible. Lol

So you must be growing the wrong weeds. ;) Tomatillos make good weeds (even here).

It was a wonderful day in the garden today. We roasted one of the pumpkins to make pumpkin pie with. I was a little worried my daughter had bonded with her pumpkin and would be devastated by cutting it up...but she was apparently wildly glad to chop up, gut, roast, and eat her pumpkin.

The pics of the pie and stuff aren't off my computer yet, but you can see the two pumpkins in the back of this photo:

We chopped the smaller one. We'll do the bigger one later and make pumpkin cookies, muffins, and other goodies.

Also planted fall crop of lettuce and a cover crop of peas in the destroyed section of my garden. Next year I may not have a garden due to residing the house. Depends on lumber prices.

Garden is still booming. More tomatoes than I know what to do with, despite getting dying tomato plants from home depot for a quick replant. A pepper mysteriously survived and provided a large pepper. A bunch of carrots. Tons of zukes, pumpkins, squash and cucumbers on the vine!

I really thought this year was going to be a bust but I guess there's something to mulching and no-till. Next year I'm going to get some hail netting so if it hails again I can protect my garden. I figure it will also offer filtered sunlight if there's too much sun next year.

That's if I have a garden. Have to reside the house and all.

This is the largest pumpkin from my vine, and the most important. My neighbor has stage 4 cancer and months left to live. Her caretaker turned up on my doorstep (she can't come out anymore) with two requests from us, both of which were fulfilled as of today.

She wanted to see my kids playing in her giant pile of maple leaves one last time (we asked to play in them last year, and she loved watching the fun) and she wanted a pumpkin. My husband helped carve it for her, and she brought it right into her house so she could look at it, and was very very happy.

I've never had a more important piece from my garden, nor do I think I ever will again. This was a very special pumpkin.
