What are You Eating from the Garden?

I don’t really grow any vegetables at this stage in our life. (Tomatoes in pots sometimes, but not this year.) But I do like to plant the root ends of grocery store green onions whenever possible. Today I’m using some in my potato salad.

Sweet Corn!

And just like that, the raccoons showed up ..

. but, not eating the sweet corn … just yet.

Something tipped the fountain last night. I think it was the raccoons because the neighbor’s cat has never done anything other than drink out of it.

When there were many acres of corn near our distant garden the neighbor had continual visits in his garden sweet corn from the raccoons. We seldom did. The difference, I think, was that he would leave old ears and we didn’t. They seem to like the starchy corn ears 🌽. It wasn’t 100% and we defensively harvested more corn today. With such a small garden now, there aren’t 3 planting for us to enjoy.

I made a stir fry last night, mostly from produce bought at the farmers market, but a handful of green beans grown in a container on my front porch went into the mix.

Last week I harvested and ate what was left of my beets and beet greens after deer ravaged them. Grrr! I bought more at the farmers market to make my planned pickled beets.
