    Facing The Fear

"I know previously they recommended curbing the squash and canning it that way but I think even that practice is discouraged. I did the cubed pumpkin a few years back. It was a lot of work because the pumpkin was difficult to cut and peel. By the time it underwent the canner it tasted burnt. I...

    Runny fruit pies =(

When you can fruit for pies, they suggest a product called clearjel. I belive it is a type of corn starch. I have not found it around here yet, but all of the canning threads swear by it.

    No Bees

We had a mild winter, and we have no pollenators at all. I thought maybe our fire ant population was somehow affecting them. We just set up a hive in my garden that I made just for them, Lots of flowers, And they are working hard. I had to bring in bees because every year I make the garden...

I need dairy goats...and a toady. I keep forgetting that I will need a lackey. Or more energy, but at my age...

While the garden looks good. (Lots of photos.) Update, more pics!!!

I did all of that already. I start my seeds in January, get them in the ground as soon as the frosts are over ~march 21. The best gardens need to be planted by Beb14, but the oddball freezes and frosts make it frustrating. I think I might be ahead a bit. My summer garden is now over. It gets to...

While the garden looks good. (Lots of photos.) Update, more pics!!!

ooh, aah! lovely! I like that garden phase. Then the 'hurry up and process it all before ruins' phase starts. That phase wears me out. I am glad to see that you garden big too. Every year my husband tells me to make it smaller, but I can't. It just gets bigger and the aisles get narrower, and...

Can you can cabbage, eat it and live?

I would love to have a root cellar, but you dig that deep down here and you get a pool. Yes, Sauerkraut is my confusion because it and that Korean pickled cabbage is in the blue book for canning, and I have canned it each year. it is less crunchy and wonderful than the fresh, but it gets eaten...
