You know all those tiny baby tubers that are so tedious to scrub prior to cooking? I found a neato way to scrub them thoroughly in just a few minutes with little effort on my part. I inserted a bottle brush into my cordless drill, soaked the tiny spuds for a bit in some water, then inserted that brush into the water and drilled away the grime! Rinsed and repeated three times, then gave a final rinse in a colander and those babies were clean as a whistle and some had been skinned even.

Can't take any credit for the idea, though, as I saw something similar on a YT vid. :D

Escarole!

(Hey, @Nyboy ;)) I didn't intend to grow it in the fall but one seed must have been buried too deep in the spring. A plant showed up long after the early escarole was harvested and, although it didn't get to any large size, it grew!

We ate it tonight with beans and sausage in a nice "peasant" soup!

I like how escarole holds up ... to July heat!

One accidental plant doesn't make for much of a test but it did okay. Obviously, it prefers to grow in cool weather because it was an almost unnoticeable size earlier. It survived 2 "killing" frosts, lots of cold and lately some very unpleasant wind and rain. Hey!

So, you are saying that it can survive overwinter??

I should have grown some for the greenhouse bed!

Melons, galia and cantaloupe, ripened off the vine. This doesn't work all that well. I don't think the sugars develop properly. They have a fresh melon fragrance and flavor, at least. I'm not gonna sprinkle sugar on 'em! It's really quite alright if I mix it with yogurt but ... another very good melon season comes to an end ...
