Collector... a safety tip that everyone should follow... I purchased a Frigidaire Professional gas range for my wife when I remodeled the kitchen. They included a bracket to fasten the range to the floor to prevent the range from tiping over if a child should climb on an open oven door. To make it work , you have to drill holes in the floor using a paper templet that they provide. However, as directed you have quite a difficulty in sliding the range into place so that the bracket holds the back legs in place. I called Frigidaire and talked to their engineers and got approval to modify the brackets by using a grinder to make a slot between the screw holes so that you can actually perform the attachment. The engineers also highly recommended to install sheetmetal onto the sides of the cabinets where the oven sides are nearest to the cabinets to prevent the cabinets from heating up enough to cause a fire due to many hours of high temperature use or automatic cleaning temperatures. Good luck and have fun. :)

The counter tops were measured up today and it went well. But we are not scheduled for install until the 15th yuck. I has been a lot more work than I was thinking when I started. The last kitchen I installed was at our old house when I was 20 yrs younger than now. I had to take up some of the flooring and cut out a 6' section of the floor where the dishwasher started leaking. Which is what put us on the road of rehabing the kitchen earlier than we wanted to. Putting the blocking in the floor joists has been the most labor intensive part so far, I will admit I said a lot of swear words while doing it. I do have a consultant who has helped with a ton of the planning and helping DW pick out the back splash and counter tops. He kind of like a project manager who has never been in our house lol. We a hoping to pick up our missing upper cabinet tomorrow AM. Peninsula work is ongoing it kind of slow because there is no plan just designing as I build it. I think it is going to look nice when I am done:duc.
I have not heard about anchoring the range down but I will look into it. I think if they told me to put sheet metal on my cabinets to prevent their stove from catching my house on fire I would tell them to come get the thing out of my house. Nowhere in any of the info I have read has it said to do that, I hope it was sold ready to be installed in our house as is. Maybe it just for extra piece of mind though, now you got me worried lol.

One of the best things I did in remodel was get a under counter mounted sink. The old sink sat on top of counter and was a pain to keep area around sink clean, gunk always was trapped there. Under counter mount granite goes right to sink edge no place to trap gunk.

I have the benfit of having 3 lawyers in the immediate family ( son's wife's father ( owns a law firm) , brother and sister are lawyers) so you hear of all types of law suits for product deficiency law suits. Insurance companies are always on the look out for any excuse to not paying a claim. So , it would be prudent for anyone to be on the alert to minimize any and all possibilities no matter how small to be in your favor. Here is just a small example. About a month ago, our dishwasher had a short that was caused by a water leak from the motor housing . Water came in contact of the electric wiring housing and shorted out melting the housing and melting the plastic . Circuit breaker shut the power off. We have American Home Shield Insurance who sent out a appliance repair company to investigate the claim. The company said that the dishwasher was unrepairable and a new one was recommended. Gues what... yesterday the Insurance company wants a 2nd opinion , so they are paying another appliance company from Portland, Ore. to come out this comming Friday to check out the findings of the first repair company. No matter what the Insurance companies advertise to get your premium dollars, they are always looking for excueses to NOT PAY a claim. When I remodeled our kichen last year, I installed a cement backer board behind the range, and all cabinets including the ceiling area, then taped and used cement to cover all gaps, then covered all wall and ceiling areas with back splash wall tiles. I installed sheet metal onto the side of the floor cabinets next to the range.
This to minimize any possibility of fire dammage. I installed the brackets to tie down the back legs of the range to help eliminate the possibility of it tipping over if a child should step onto the oven door and possibly hurt or kill the child. Go the extra few feet to save a mile of grief. :old

NYB, we are doing the undercount sink also. We picked up a 33" granite composite single basin sink 9" deep and a tall faucet so we can get 5 gallon buckets and large stock pots under it. Bobm, you have made me think about a gas range tipping from a child or dog, it may break the gas line and fill the house with propane... yikes. Not a problem with a electric unit. DW also wants to look into the sheet metal now that she is going to be a grandma she will be doing a lot more baking lol. We are having a heck off a time deciding on knobs and lighting right now though lol. We have timberframe so any wires we run will be exposed on the ceiling. And we have some hideous brass and glass chandeliers right now. Just going to keep plugging away at it still need to work on peninsula and start with the trim.

I really like timber frame houses Collector.
Those little finish details seem to be harder to decide on than the major ones. I picked out hardware for my kitchen cabinets, and it's been sitting here for a year just waiting for me to paint the cabinets.

It's wise to be cautious of course, but how likely is it that you will have a large dog jump on an open oven door, or a child climb on it?
If you have those kinds of dogs or children, it might be good foresight to prohibit them from the kitchen entirely. There are a lot of dangerous things in a kitchen to get into besides stoves.

Except for 10ish years at this house, where the electric range came with the house and we replaced it with gas when it went belly up, I've been around gas stoves my whole life.
Never had experience with or ever heard of anyone's child tipping a stove over.

I'm sure it has happened sometime somewhere, but the possibility is sure not going to keep me awake at night.

LOL it took me much longer to pick out knobs then the cabinets or counter. I found the ones I wanted on ebay. Your going to love how easy clean up is your new sink :love:love:love I also went with glass top because those drip pans surrounding burners never look clean
