Thought I'd run with the theme of 'black and white' beans...I checked to see how many I've grown. I added in there one of my network beans for this year. I think bright patterns and contrasts are so pretty in beans. It's too bad that the Chester bean doesn't make a good green bean, because it is such an amazingly productive variety. I think Orca has some potential as a good roma type bean if it's caught early enough. Magpie was great as a fresh snap filet bean. I haven't tried the others as green beans yet.

Chester is one of my favorite shelly beans. It has a short DTM for a pole bean (especially for that seed size) and a good yield. The beans are large, easy to shell, colorful even cooked, and tasty. I really wanted to grow it this year, but due to other beans in greater need of renewal, Chester will have to wait for 2022. :(

The Haudenosaunee were part of the Iroquois Nations confederacy. The French called it the Iroquois Confederacy and the English called it the League of Five Nations. I think there is even a bean called the Five Nations bean. They all might have grown many of the same beans as they likely traded among themselves.

I have always Known the bean simply by the shortened name of Skunk. There are two synoym names associated with the Skunk. A woman named Gial Flagg from Fort Kent, Maine stated the bean had been grown around Chester, Vermont for a long time. So the bean has picked up the two synonym names of Flagg and Chester. If you like to keep the bean as Haudenosaunee Skunk I don't think there is anything improper in continuing to do.

Room For Beans, Beans And More Beans​

The soil delivery for my newest raised bed box. First delivery at 7:45 AM Saturday. Second Delivery at 10:15 AM and third and final delivery at 12:30 PM. We got a total of 36 yards for $860. This company was the cheapest one in my area. Some places wanted as much as $1,400 for the same amout of soil. The soil they delivered was just gorgeous. Couldn't be happier. I will send in a soil sample and see how it tests. Some of the first and second soil deliver I spread with a rake. Then most of the soil was moved with a front end loader. I finished moving more soil today with a rake to even things out. There were some high little hills that needed to be Spread around. Spent about 4 and half hours doing that. Now I have two 960 square foot twin raised beds for a total of 1,920 square feet. This will be the last improvement behind my deer fence.
