Hi everyone,
Well... the storm through NJ last night tipped a tree (some kind of cherry?) we planted about 19 years ago and really love.
It's on the west side of our deck (seen here) and provided not only privacy but also great canopy shade on our deck, into our kitchen, and into our dining...
Happy to report... used the electric dethatcher, raked everything away, watered a little - not much - put down weed & feed, had a few storms (sadly, more on that in another post)... and... voila.
June 7 - June 24.
Looks like a lot of light green new grass!
There are still annoying...
Thanks everyone - this all sounds much better than new sod ;)
I have a few sprinklers I've rarely used... maybe it's time.
Aerate - I wish there were an easy way, but I guess I can hire someone. I did lime and use broadcast weed control.
cheers
Andrew
Hi all...
So, I have a serious thatch problem. I dethatched once with an electric dethatcher this year, but the thatch seems to be practically multiplying...
Each year it's some kind of weed, or drought, or whatever... I'm beginning to lose hope here.
We will not be resodding. I have a...
Ok, a tree that was tipping hard and staked incorrectly was dug up, re-planted, and re-staked a few months ago.
Looked good for a bit, and today I noticed LOTS of orange leaves, but ALL leaves have spots now....
Anyone?
thanks!
Andrew
Hi,
Well, I really like the idea of a few large grasses here, but I think I'll have to find an alternative to the pampas such as Miscanthus giganteus . I'd do two or three and probably fill in with some herbs and dry-tolerant annuals.
Hi everyone.
Well, since a great start last year, aside from building a nice pergola, we had one after another landscaping "issues" including 3 lost trees, one of which was my favorite (a Bradford Pear.. ) that was a great shade tree.
Anyway, beside the fact that Bradfords should stay in the...
Hi again-
so lucky - believe it or not, yes, this was planted by a nursery. One right across the street from our house...
Mama Chicken - actually, they're the ones who didn't stake it, then came back and put stakes with bare twine on the tree (and left it at its "angle").
thistlebloom -...
Thanks all.
Since it seems this newly received tree needs so much care since being bought and planted last summer, is this something the nursery should have corrected initially?
In other words, I assume planting a tree straight, staking it correctly, and possibly delivering a correctly pruned...
Hi all.
We have a red maple tree (about 3") in our yard that was planted angled, without any supports, last June; the tree was then poorly tethered with twine. It didn't correct anything, so I removed them rather than risk them cutting into the bark.
Is there any way to know if it will...
Thanks guys -
I don't mind the heat... like it, actually, but I've never tried this kind of pepper.
They do turn beautiful hues after picking, though... almost a shame to eat them!
Note: it just seems WRONG to put Hungarian peppers on tacos :)
So our Hungarian hot peppers are going nuts... and that's from a container!
Anyway, we've never grown them before so I'm not sure what to do with them. I've seen some pickling recipes but would prefer to use them fresh if possible.
Any suggestions?
thanks,
Andrew
I recently bought the Fiskars and love it.
Two main reasons I bought it: to get exercise and so I could hear my iPod... It's great for both. It is actually a really good workout.
Doesn't cut tall stuff, but I didn't get rid of my gas mower. Also very easy to adjust height. And.. A nice long...
Ok, these were posted before but I haven't got an ID on them yet... I really am hoping to be able to prune the HECK out of these. WAY too close to the deck, and they are actually leaning out and away from the structure. They've gotten pretty ugly, but they're in good health. FWIW I'm going to be...
You know, I thought of that... frankly, I don't even have time to do all the work on -my own- yard that I need to!
Beyond that, this thing is a -lot- bigger than it looks. I like going nuts with the chainsaw (just ask all the people screaming and running out of the mall last weekend) but it...
Wow! Always pictured the green ones...
Hope I can keep this one alive. Any idea if I should keep it inside during the winter? I found a few mentions of shamrocks being perennial, but can't find much on this one.
Thanks,
Andrew
