I'll have to agree too with too much water. my fig tree is alittle smaller than yours and we only water every few days and it gets hot & dry here fast.

I had used hay on mine and it did not work very well. I will try again but I read to make sure you add some soil on top because the hay alone allows to much air thru. We grew carrots for the first time too last summer. they came out short and stocky but the kids loved them. ordered a rainbow mix to try this year, the kids just want to eat a purple carrot now. we'll see how they come out. :P
