    Scored on plant tray inserts

Yesterday, we went to the seed and supply store. I ordered my 2nd greenhouse and bought some supplies for this season. While browsing the isle for trays and inserts, I noticed several boxes piled with misc. items. I asked if those items were for sale. He said he would make me a deal. :weee I...

What would you like to do differently in next year's garden?

This year my cuke runners were incredibly long. I picked cukes hanging from okra stalks and tomato plants. Next year, I would like to let them run on cattle fencing or something. They would take up less room and grow straighter and more blemish free. I want to plant way more onions and some...

    My hummingbirds are gone now...

I haven't noticed any hummingbirds around my feeder since Monday afternoon. I suppose the little creatures are headed farther south to warmer climates. I suppose I need to take the feeders down, clean them and put them away till next year...(sigh).

A different kind of garden fun...

Well, it's over, my garden that is. Today we took down all the cages, stakes, and felt covering. My DH ran the bushhog through and cut everything down. I started throwing old veggies at my DS. He grabbed his old aluminum t-ball bat and wanted me to pitch to him. He's 17 now but still has a...

Whew, just braved the yellow jackets ...

and wasps to pick pears. So far, I have almost 2 bushels. I think I have about half of them. As it got warmer, the bees really started swarming. Luckily no stings, but a yellow jacket did bite me  I'm going to wait until this evening or early in the morning to get the rest. Monday...

    My garden is pooped!!

It's that time of year here in E. Tenn. when my garden is winding down. No rain in 3 weeks has really taken its toll. I might get a handful of tomatoes yet and the okra is still podding. I really can't complain since it is supplied me with numerous jars of tomato juice, salsa, tomato sauce...

    Did something stupid yesterday

I was making a salsa for fish out of papaya & roasted red peppers. It happened to call for a diced jalepeno pepper. I walked up to the garden and picked a nice red one. Now I know that you should wear gloves when cutting peppers, but I thought surely just one won't bother me. WRONG!! My fingers...

Your opinions on types of food dehydrators, please

I am wanting to invest in a food dehydrator. What kind do you have and why do you like/dislike it?

Has anyone used their greenhouse in the summer to dry/dehydrate foods?

Just something I was curious about. My greenhouse is wide open with no fans since there is nothing in there right now. The temps regularly get 120+ degrees. With all that heat and sunshine, could food be dried in it? Let me hear all your opinions :rainbow-sun

    Monster in my garden (pics)!!

While gathering in the rest of the normal size tomatoes, I found this giant. :ep It is a Brandywine. I weighed it in a 2 lbs. exactly. It's not the prettiest thing, since it was so wedged inbetween the vine and cage.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! What's on your to-do gardening list ...

... today? What needs to be done in your garden today? I plan on picking more okra, cukes, tomatoes and peppers. I'm sure some of my strawberry runners have rooted, so I'll lift those cups and start more. I pull weeds as I go and give them to the chickens. I know my potted flowers will need...

I've been standing on my head again, today!

You know, it's that weird stance we take when we reach down with both hands and grab a bunch of weeds and pull till we almost fall on our backside. I cleaned the okra out and was rewarded with a few pods. I think I'll fry it up with some squash tomorrow:)
