Lila Stuart - Semi Runner dry.

About 110 days to dry seed. A bean from the Wanigan collection I originally grew back in the early 1980's. 18 inch tall plants (45cm). The bean comes out of early SSE member Ernest B. Dana's collection of Etna, N.H. in the 1970’s. Reacquired from an Oregon SSE member in 2013, who acquired it from a Washington SSE member, who originally got the bean from me in 1984. The bean traveled it's circle in 29 years. Total Seed Harvest: 11 ounces (311 grams)

Long Prairie 2 - Bush dry.

One of the many segregations of Robert Lobitz legacy beans I acquired in 2015. This bean produced one off type of it's own this summer which was similar to one of the other legacy beans segregations. Second photo is it's 2019 off type. It's gets really complicated sometimes. Total Seed Harvest: 3.90 ounces (110 grams)

Long Prairie 2.2 Bush dry.

Another segregation of one of the Robert Lobitz Legacy beans. This beans looks like a light skin toned Jacob's Cattle. This bean did not produce any off types this year. These names are all working titles. If stablized they will get new names. Total Seed Harvest: 4.25 ounces (120 grams)

Louisiana - Pole, Snap.

75 days to snaps and 100 to first dry seed. Heavy yields of green pods streaked with purple. 8 to 9 seeds per pod. Pods remain tender for an extended period. Another of my all time favorite pole snap varieties. People who have gotten this bean from me tell me what a great bean it is to grow and enjoy. I had grown this bean for the first time as far back as the early 1980's. The bean did very well this summer. The poor soil prepreation didn't seem to slow it down. Total Seed Harvest: 27.60 ounces (782 grams)

Lynnfield - Pole, Dry.

My first encounter with this bean was in the early 1980's as a member of John Withee's Wanigan Associates which was based in Lynnfield, MA. It is a segregation from Lila Stuart that John Withee discovered in one of his bean grow outs and named it after the town where he lived. The bean usually does very well. Large seeds it produced a smaller crop of seed this summer but of fairly nice quality. Total Seed Harvest: 4.50 ounces (127 grams).

Major Cook's - Pole, All Purpose.

Productive plants climb over 8'. 5.5" pods splashed bright red turn deep purple as pods become curved before drying. Multi purpose. Pods are fiberless, thick walled and juicy with a strong flavor. Sweet rich and pleasant. If you eat the whole beans they will stay intact in a casserole. The texture is buttery, silky, rich and sweet. Also serves as a dry bean too. This bean wasn't it's usual self this year. It strugled a bit. Total Seed Harvest: 8.50 ounces (240 grams)
