Coffee, Old School

Years ago I went to visit my uncle who was staying at the Sherry Netherland Hotel. He told me to order a pot of coffee and basket of muffins from room service while he got ready. I almost passed out when I signed bill for $60, 4 muffins and small pot of coffee.

SouthEast Corner of Central Park on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan?!

They would probably charge for breathing their air while walking thru!

The roasted fig beverage I use as the decaf part in the pot is a little expensive ... I was ordering it from Florida. Then! I ferretted out the company's actual location - southern Oregon using California figs. Much better price! I'm having my morning cuppa with a slice of dry kiwi :). Feel like a real plutocrat.

I recently started drinking "turbo-charged coffee" which is brewed coffee, butter and coconut oil. Blended to frothy with the stick blender. With stevia.
I use about a tablespoon of organic butter, and a half-tablespoon of coconut oil.
It makes the best, most comforting and fulfilling hot drink. You gotta drink it hot! Nothing comforting about lukewarm coffee with oils floating on top.
Benefits are said to be more energy, better concentration, easier on the stomach.
I think I have a bit more energy. And I was looking for a way to get coconut oil into my diet on a regular basis, so....so far, so good.

I use coconut oil to cook my eggs and saute my veggies. I like the subtle flavor it imparts. Do you use it for cooking on a regular basis?

.

Why doesn't the butter and oil float on top of hot coffee? When I use what my renter calls 'Eva cream' there are always little dots of oil on the surface.

Okay, I need to ask about coconut oil...I was using it to cook my eggs in, then started wondering why it's so trendy now and what the health benefits might actually be.

I was predictably confused by the pro and con sides of the debate once I started reading about it.
I stopped using it mostly because as one author pointed out, the claims that have been made about it's miracle working
powers have not been properly researched or proven yet.
So it is basically a saturated fat, higher in SF's even than butter.
Butter is cheaper, and I like it fine, so I will just cook my eggs in that.

But I like it as a moisturizer. :)

The first time we were in Australia, in the morning before breakfast sister (in law) told AJ to go to market and pick up a couple items, stressing Dunny rolls, while at the store as AJ was gathering the items sent for, I popped into the bakery next door and ordered Dunny Rolls to have with coffee, the girl looked at me unknowingly, AJ came through the door laughing loudly, when we were back at the house he told everyone "When I saw him in the Bakery, I knew exactly what he had done!" Everyone had a long laugh ON me,.

You see, the Dunny is the toilet, AJ had been told to buy toilet paper.
