cornflowers (should be cone flowers)

I've been given access to a bed of purple ones? How do you propogate them? I really don't want to dig them up (altho owner said I could take a couple)

I'm using them around church building so we don't have to mow so much. If I learn how in a year, I'll start them in ditch by road so even less mowing............hate to mow!!!!

Being a Annual, you should just collect the dried up flower heads for the seeds.
They sure are beautiful flowers!

Most coneflowers are perennial and you should be able to just collect and toss some seeds out to grow them. Mine are self sowing and I've had to put a LOT of little suckers they start themselves in my lawn and walk ways.

Seed is easiest... they take to transplant better in the spring then fall.

That's weird i was Reading up on them and it said it was an Annual.

Goes to show one should check out a few resources when looking for info on plants.

Well, there is a major difference in Cone and Corn

Cone Flowers are perennial, and Corn Flowers are not! LOL

So beware the Cone Heads, they are really from outer space!

You are not losing your mind Joe! Yeah, topic says corn...but post sounds like it's describing coneflowers. I raised an eyebrow because I thought corn flowers only come in orange, yellow, beige (never seen purple)...the dried flowers you use in fall arrangements.

Seedcorn -- you'll be ok to dig some and probably be doing your friend a favor. Coneflowers are very prolific seeders and they come back year after year (periennial). I've got them everywhere. Very nice attractant for butterflies.
