West Virginia has a vaccination lottery. Probably, unlike any other ... $ , pickup trucks , hunting licenses , guns :

"The U.S. was never able to control the virus without vaccines, and it still can’t. The risk is still about as high as it’s ever been for unvaccinated people, as the Washington Post recently reported. An average of about 500 Americans per day are still dying from COVID-19, almost all of them unvaccinated."

Will add this as a good read:

We aren't out of this.

This CDC chart doesn't show that covid deaths plummeted in May. After all, total deaths reported in the US didn't drop from 55,000+ to 27,000. Instead, data is flowing slowly from the states. (But, all numbers are improving over what they were 12 & 6 months ago.)

There is a separate article on the CDC website re delayed reports from rural states. Since the more recent surges have been there and rural hospitals were overwhelmed in some areas - delays are no surprise.

Decline in numbers is in the accounting, however. It would be depressing to do the math but just looking at the charts for Deaths from All Causes, we can see the steady 5,000+ that wouldn't be accounted for if we closed our eyes completely to the pandemic. LINK
