John Prine dying of Covid-19, that sure seemed sad. He wrote those songs about loneliness and trauma. Won the Grammy so many times. Sometimes he had fun with his music.

I thought that he was so aged, but I was mostly remembering him from the 70's. The 1970's, that is.

Without Tom Hanks coming down sick in March, I'm not sure the idea of a 2020 pandemic would have even clicked with so many of us. Of course, he is about 10 years younger than Prine & Nugent and recovered well. We are probably lucky if the Australians don't call it "the American virus."

Wondering about the workers at your favorite grocery store?

"Since March 1, UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers International Union) reports a national 30 percent spike in COVID deaths of grocery workers." Press release, today.

Me, I have had my belated 2nd poke. The hospital was packed with people! I think some of the "reluctant" have changed their thinking recently. Shoulder is sore altho never bad and not a problem for sleeping last night. Still, I'm sleepy today but shoulder feels better.

DW & I had our second shot a couple weeks ago, so as of today, we are considered fully vaccinated. Perfect timing to celebrate DW's birthday tomorrow, by going out to eat for the first time in a year! :hugsMy mother had her Bday this month too, and had her shots one day before ours... so she will be coming along with us too. Life goes on.

How is your county and its hospitals doing? Here is NPR, working with info from the University of Minnesota and Department of HHS:

LINK As you read the story, a link to the NPR "tool" shows up in the first few paragraphs.
I wanted to bring this back since the burden on the hospitals and healthcare workers should be such an important part of our concern. It's also LOCAL. This NPR tool is updated so this post is not really 3 months old - just click to see how things are for your communities or those places where you have loved ones.

I realize that people expressing theories and blame on teevee and in podcasts is more exciting AND they can explain a complex world right down to the n'th degree. It Don't Make It True

in Michigan recently new cases have gone from over 8,000 a day down to about 3,000 a day so things have eased off a bit, but the ICU total has not gone down much yet from the peak and ventilator use is still about where it was at the peak too:

I know that my son in Portland is disappointed. He is fully vaccinated but just had party plans cancelled. I noticed on the map posted that Jackson County is in the red.

Maps of elsewhere for us to look at - the CDC maps and info was always okay. Now, they are better!

I swear, some states have been trying to lock down information. Several months ago, I was looking at W Virginia. What a task to sort through links and webpages to arrive at information on what they were going through. Then, I looked at Indiana and it was just too great of a bother and I gave up. Then, we have Florida where the state's medical specialist in charge of getting information to the public quit her job in protest, very early in the game ...

yes, i've noticed that, our system is a mess and so we get poorer results for the money spent than we'd otherwise get if we were more organised and didn't waste so much on duplications of efforts.

we may have gotten exposed recently. :(

this time of the year with my spring allergies it will be hard to know what is going on.

i'm glad i had my first dose already and may be somewhat protected by now, but still going to worry a bit for a while.
