In the case that I have piqued anybody's interest in growing a wildflower patch, let me give you my thoughts and what I have learned.
1) You can make a small or medium or large wildflower patch anywhere in your yard, but they do better with full sun. Mine patch is in full sun and faces a slight downhill slope to the south.
2) YOU HAVE TO WEED IT 1X/YEAR. If you don't you will be fighting the weeds there that you fight everywhere else.
3) These flowers are Really tough! I accidentally pulled out about 20 of them prepping the patch this year, but I had 2 seeds volunteer in cement cracks, and they all have tough stems. THEY.ARE.SURVIVORS.
4) They are really great for places where nothing else wants to do well. You are not supposed to add any fertilizer OR compost. They do much better even in clay.

Finally cut down burdock and other weeds and pulled the rest from around and in between my tomato fencing. I got that done before the mid day downpour and I had put all of my tools away.
Great rain and I even saw a few of the wildflowers up--some seed packages said that they would sprout quickly, and I kept the newly regained bed watered.
The belt came off of my God Mower, and I have an appt. for them to pick it up to repair aGAIN next week.
In the mean time I am making piles that need to go out to the north pasture burn pile, so I need it through the weekend, so I can haul them out there with my tow wagon.
I took the advice of our good friends who we had a lovely meal--we provided the ribeyes and they made the rest--last Saturday. They used to be the best neighbors that we ever had, and we have kept in touch. They live about 30 minutes north now and the found probably the best house in their small town, lost of room for the 4 of them, nice yard, 2 car garage with a south facing carport, etc.
ANYWAY, L. said I should check out somebody about 20 minutes away who has been selling vegetable starts.
I bought 30 plants at $1/each, tomatoes were leggy, but I have them in containers to protect them especially since the T storms brought a lot of wind.
I found enough peppers, too. Now, I can finish cleaning up my beds and should be able to transplant all of them in the next week.
My left knee surgery is 3 weeks from tomorrow.
The gentlemen with the plant sale is a widower and has his whole yard in vegetables. I will be gathering up ALL of my 4 inch plastic pots that had box store vegetables in them when purchased, and delivering them to him as soon as I can do so. I dunno why I kept them. I don't really transplant with them and they are taking up space.
He said he will be Happy to have them!
