I'd like to add that by removing the biggest part of a bindweed plant and throwing it in the trash before it sets seed, makes it harder for it to multiply out of control next year.
Today I was on my God Mower, along the fenceline that my neighbors cut down for me, going forward one bindweed to the next, and getting ALL of it (except for the roots).
When I apply 2D4 on Tuesday I will kill the roots, too.
If you simply mow it the pieces will discharge and they WILL take root where they land.
I have had success both smothering a patch and digging it out with a wheelbarrow, hand manipulating the runners, accumulating them in a bucket and throwing those away, and, a few years ago I was able to completely eradicate one of my beds on the west side of the garage of all of the bindweed there.
Yes, it has been creeping back, but weeds don't have feet and cannot run away like vermin.

I had to show you what my neighbors did for me. I thought that they were done, but when I was about to drive off and drop them the double batch of brownies, they were finished the east fencing. Take a look!!:

Notice in the 3rd picture how the stumps are the same diameter as the 8inch wide fencepost!
I was hoping to get the wood, but I really don't care that they wanted it for burning later. They left me a pile to take back to my firepit for this Fall, AND there is a dead cherry tree 12 ft south of the firepit that needs to come down, so I'm good.
They even chopped down and removed an 8ft tall, 6 ft wide wild rose bush--NOBODY wants those!
