First signs of spring

Hahaha, that is so funny lavender. I have been pondering the same thing. "if I cover my greenhouse, AND put down the black pond liner that has the hole in it, would the snow melt and the ground in the raised bed thaw? And what happens to the greenhouse plastic if it snows another few feet..."

:D ... I love that one! And it is SO ME! .. AND my gardens right now, I wonder how long it would take for black plastic to melt 2-3 feet of snow?

Not all that long in the sun we've been having lately. Lay down the black plastic, put clear plastic about 2 inches over the black and your snow should be history long before those cuss words, "POLAR VORTEX" are repeated by the weather forecasters on TV.

Spring is on the way! I now have proof!
Despite the continued cold. Despite the continued snow. Despite my forgetting to add water. Somehow the plants know. They know it is time to start growing.

Here wintering in the sun room, are my fig starts, a pot of freesia and some tuberoses that just seemed to know it was time and started to grow.

Black pot at bottom left; is that a fig?? It kind of looks like one!

Spring in 1980 was a difficult time in the garden, downwind from Mount St. Helens. Downhill would have been worse.

Disney was prescient . . .

I have been hearing different kinds of woodpeckers that arrive in early spring. One was tap tapping on what must have been a great big hollow tree. The sound was so unusually loud. It is not really early spring.
