After discovering that I LOVE Fuyu Persimmons, I'm thinking of getting a tree. One of my parents that has one said they bought an 8' tree and it took about 5 years to produce fruit. I've tried googling it and I don't see that mentioned by nurseries. Of course, maybe they don't want you to know that so you won't be discouraged from buying one.
I've called a very nice reputable nursery and they have them in stock. They are 8-9', 2-3yrs. old. They say they trim them down for you to 18".
This is so the tree can mature at 8-10 feet instead of the usual 20-25ft. They also will take about 8 years to bear fruit. One of the employees planted one 3 years ago and got just 1 persimmon. Looks like the tree may be on track to produce in the 5 years that I've heard.
I find it hard to believe that they would take that long to bare fruit. Why? Any thoughts? Anyone ever grow one?
