The photography would be the icing on the cake. Yeah, I agree with you, Retired, this is a book I must have in my collection. You know, we honestly could do this, especially if we could get a good editor. A PDF version would be the easiest, nearly free way to do it. It's certainly been fun to envision it. We just need that type A, organized person to put it in gear! ;)

K, until we get a type A boss, maybe we can get some things a/rollin.

We can make a list of the Chapters.

Someone want to volunteer to use their Easy Garden page, say page 1, to start a list of the chapters?

This is a start at OUTLINING the project.

It'd look something like this:

PRELIMINARY CHAPTER TITLES
effective harvesting
indoor seed sowing
garden poetry

Once that list gets going, then names of the chapter team authors or author are put under, like this: this is all just an example made up for showing some organizing ideas)

basic outdoor seed sowing
Fred such and so, Jane Doe

Once the (just made up those names for the example) author team begins work on their chapter, they may decide to subdivide their chapter into sections, like this:

basic outdoor seed sowing, by fred and jane
sowing corn and sorghum
sowing peas
ensuring in advance there will be some sort of trellis
14 ways to trellis peas...other members on other teams contribute a short paragraph or 2
so and so's simple sticks
such and so's fence pieces
somebody's horizontal grate for bush peas
sowing carrots
extra care handling small seeds
avoiding temptation to sow too thickly

I do think we are at the stage where we can begin a preliminary outline, and make changes on it for awhile!

Are we beginning to think about maybe might be could be getting serious about this project?

Can't hurt to make an outline, see where that takes us.

An outline for a book is basically the book's TABLE OF CONTENTS, but it is a working version.

Should poetry be free?

Steve
Poetry should be free! That would have saved me a hunk of money spent on books! Seriously, poetry can be free or rhyme. It is the aesthetic quality of words that defines poetry, not strictly rhyme or meter.

The Butterfly

A butterfly flew into my garden.
I welcomed him that day.
In spite of lifes capricious ways
Id hoped that he would stay.

A butterfly drifted into view
Bringing peace with his gentle way.
Flitting about me from flower to flower,
Lifes good, he seemed to say.

A butterfly flew past and stirred the air.
Brought gentle music to my soul
With whisper-soft winged songs of love
Despite lifes weary toll.

A butterfly skimmed on the breeze
Brought beauty to my skies.
In the garden I tended with loving care,
He paused with laughter in untroubled eyes.

A butterfly soared with serene joy.
Love brought me, taught me, shared,
A moment with his perfect self
For time adrift on sunshined air.

A butterfly perched on my cheek
Brought hope that he would stay.
But with a gentle breathless kiss,
Too soon he flew away.

WIth far to short a time to sing,
With far too short a time to play,
With far too shrot a time to share,
That perfect sprirt flew away.

I will try to look that outline over tomorrow. My MIL is coming over to watch the kids, so I should have some time.

Journey, the outline I put there is just a sample of a possible form.

I've been chewing on it in my head, but never got time to sit down today... Really shouldn't take long. Maybe we can use our respective member pages to work on some of the articles and then I'll plug them into the outline via word-link as we go, just to see a working copy.

Ok, we are at the stage of,
1) Sequencing the preliminary list of chapters into outline form
and
2) Obtaining a suitable place to do this preliminary outline.

In the morning when my coffee kicks in real good, I'll post here a list of suggested chapters so far mentioned in posts in this topic.

We are getting the ball rolling! small step by small step.

We will need to create also, a list of chapters that have not yet been mentioned

We will then need to make team assignments
Each chapter team will first make an outline of their assigned chapter

WRITING A GARDEN BOOK BY TEAMWORK!

Who really wants to collaborate on this garden book?

I know I want to. Raise your hand if you really want to also.
