Introducing "Cherokee"

So sorry to hear about Spartacus. Cherokee is very handsome. That lap dog instinct will still be there when he is full grown. LOL. @Jeni Ann has GP's . One now (as many as 3 once!) all house dogs. She still likes to share the couch with her humans. More on her human than on the couch! ;) YEP you got a good mix of guard dog and lap dog. :) ENJOY

I'm very sorry for your loss of Spartacus. :hugs My old furry friend is battling cancer here too.
 
what a wonderful looking pup, definitely train him right... a shame that our 4 legged friends are only around a short time in our life span, still think about all my boys and girls with all the love and joy they have given me.. sad but happy thoughts...

A few weeks ago we had to say goodbye to our beloved Spartacus, who had been our furry friend for over 10 years. We miss him so much.

It was very lonely around here with just the two of us. So.... we started looking for a new friend to share our lives.

I wanted a little fluffy lapdog... My husband wanted a watchdog.
So.. this was our compromise.

We now have a Great Pyrenees puppy. Oh my! I had forgotten how busy puppies are in the first few months!! But, in a year or so we should have a very good dog! Lots of training in our future!

He is showing signs of being a good watchdog. He listens intently to new sounds when he is outside.

He is a very smart pup! No accidents in the house, pretty much goes potty on command now. Here in AZ he will be a house dog, especially once summer is here!

He had his first bath last Friday...

I can't think of a better way to have a puppy sleep for a couple of hours than to give them a bath and blow them dry.

Well, his head will fit in your lap. So beautiful.
 
We love, Love LOVE our Pyrs. Ours have always been in/out dogs, except our first and he just hated to be indoors. They love to be on the couch/bed with us, but need to be out barking their heads off at those cars/trucks/tractors that dare to come down the road. The deer p*** them off, too!

Your new baby looks SO much like our Faith who we only got to have for 3 yrs before cancer took her.
Enjoy the guy, he sure looks happy!!! As does "daddy"!
 
I love that puppy and I would love to have a couple of guard dogs, but I have a problem with past dogs running through the burdocks and brambles all the time. (Sorry @Nyboy) I have had to cut gobs a hair off since brushing was impossible for both of us. How do you handle long haired dogs? I insisted on getting a short-haired something and LOVE it that CeeCee never needs clipping and burs and seeds are easy to remove after a jaunt.

Ours get a "hair cut" every year, early summer, between cutting chunks out during the rest of the year. No show dogs or even "go to town" dogs - so it is ok. We just want them to be comfortable ;)
We also have a Feist mix w/ short hair and boy oh boy is it ever easy to keep that dog clean! :)
We have never had a Pyr that liked (or tolerated?) a bath, including our current girl.
Big dog + stubborn + dislike of baths =:barnie
But ... Yeah they are worth it! LOVE those dogs :love
