Well, I haven't been doing much in the garden lately. We have had our house on the market for around 5 months, and we are finally under contract to sell thank goodness. For about 3 weeks now we have been moving, and selling, and moving and sorting. My wife has been boxing up things we didn't need right now and transferring them to the barn at the farm. She's also been weeding out what we didn't need and selling them at yard sells, and the flea market. We are due to close at the end of April, hopefully things will get back to normal here soon. Its sort of bitter sweet, I spent 15 years re-modeling this house, watched my kids grow up running up and down the halls, I know we are on to better things but leaving lots of memories behind.
ANYWAY....I did break out the tiller yesterday and attempted to bust up the tomato and pepper garden. This is the spot I rolled the hay bail out on last fall, and added all the chicken brooder waste to. I feel it did do as I expected, but I still had to move some of the thicker mat off the ground before the tiller would really do its job. Once I got down to the dirt, it had taken on a darker appearance and it actually feels less dense, if that makes sense. Once I got the dirt to the consistency that I like with the Tiller, closer inspection shows a lot of solid material still left to decompose present in the soil. Im anxious to see what the tomato's and peppers do this year.
Oh yea, everything that I had started from seed.....gone. Burnt everything up, just not paying attention and left them on the heat mats to long. I got all my tomatoes and peppers restarted last night, everything else will be direct sowed in the garden.
This is what it looked like when I started...
A round or two across the top with the tiller, I moved the thicker mat off with the pitch fork....
Blended in really well, nice and Loamy Lol......
If you look real close you can see the grass and hay clippings left to decay....
And ready to plant....(after this rain shower moves out)
