Yes, black radish. This is our first time growing it, and we chose it because it is a cold and cough remedy. I don't much care for radishes myself, but we're all into that natural healing stuff.

It is pronounced kuh-len-juh-luh. :D Although, I was saying it kal-en-doo-lah for the longest time (and probably sounding like a dope) until my aunt corrected me.

No, no - nothing dopish about it, Calendula!

I have followed my grandmother's pronunciation for zinnias (zeen-yahs) but drifted away from her "kal-en-doo-lahs" because the floral trade, which I was a part of for several years, didn't pronounce it that way. Actually, I think Grandma's pronunciation is more common.

Grandma's been gone for over 50 years so maybe she will forgive me.
