I have to choose between planting too soon and catching a late frost, or planting too late and everything burning to a crisp from the heat.

I have to choose between planting too soon and catching a late frost, or planting too late and everything burning to a crisp from the heat.

That's part of the dilemma isn't it? Part of it is that you just want to get an early start, but part is that you need to get started early enough with some things so you get a harvest before the heat gets to them. Things like lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, carrots, and spinach just to name a few. Then the problem with tomatoes, they don't set on if the nights are too hot.
