I'm late with this question but did anyone have blackeyed peas, collards and cornbread for New Year's dinner?

That sounds like a tasty tradition to me but I would be happy to opt for Portuguese kale until I can (perhaps) develop more of a taste for collards.

I've told you that my grandfather was an orphan and raised by his aunt and her Confederate veteran husband, right? Does that suggest that appreciation for these peas (defined however one might wish) may be an acquired taste?

We had blackeyed peas and cabbage. I froze the peas this past summer and had a head of cabbage in the garden that needed to be used before it went bad.
