New Arrivals!

my chickies got to go outside for a fieldtrip the other day too. today, they're locked up because it's colder than heck. I need to build a corral that they can go out everyday (it's supposed to be warm starting tomorrow).

It's the first Sat in May. From the VA thread on BYC: "Gilmanor Farm is at 12187 Chewning Road, Glen Allen, VA. Looks like their events run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm --- and the contact is Joel Gilman at 804-798-6514."If you heard folks at Hargraves talking about 'the big swap' this is it. There will be at least a hundred vendors. Selling everything from chicks to adult chickens, all other 'yard fowl' of all ages, cage/pet birds, some home made goodies (jams, jellies, and other things in jars), some crafts, and last year I saw some pigs, donkeys, goats and a few folks were there selling plants (bedding, veggie, flowers, trees).
It's like a little State Fair, without paying to get in and no fried twinkies.

Chickens went outside for the first time today. I just rigged some chicken wire around my old coop that needs to be redone.

Ahh, I remember when mine were that little...seems like only a month ago. Wait, it was only a month ago. They grow up so fast. One minute they are your little babies, depending on you to wipe their butts and give them everything they need; the next thing you know, they are running around with butt tattoos, fighting and going to jail. :D

ETA: Cane, whats a few more chicks? Ya know ya wanna. :lau

Oh I am deffinately gonna!

No fried Twinkies???

Cane, the ole saying goes, find a need and fill it!

You should set up a deep fried Twinkies booth there!

He's an EE of questionable ancestry. ;) He belongs to Ki4got on BYC and I think that she said he hatched from a blue egg. She's crossed him with some of her Dorking hens (since they lay white eggs) and gotten some 5-toed, blue egg layers!! I'm hoping I might snag one of those too.
My 'goal' for the flock is to eventually end up with 10-15 hens with a nicely diversified color range who lay a nice rainbow of egg colors.
.... so far I've got some really pretty hens but only brown eggs. :P My EE from last year lays a darker brown egg and I'm considering trying to hatch a few of them, with my roo being a marans, I might get a couple of really dark egg layers. ... then again, I might get a couple more roos....

Cane, you'll be coming up with some new breeds pretty soon!
