So what do all you green thumbed folks do....

I usually do some type of home improvement projects for the inside of the house, since I spend most of my time outdoors come spring/summer.
Fall and winter is a great time to catch up on all the sprucing up.
I am just starting to learn how to make soaps so I plan to hopefully perfect that over the winter.
I should have lots of time to do that when I am snowed in.
I like to spend time getting caught up on photo albums and baby books and things like that as well.
There is definitely something to be said for winter weather as it forces you to stay in and get things done around the house that you have been putting off.

spend more time with my dogs and cows .
and use computer too much in those days .
nice thread .

'Round here, winter is Roller Derby season! Got friends who are referees and derby girls, so we support them.

Also I return to learning how to embroider (specifically 17th century styles), I bake bread and cook a lot more (it's easier to do when the kitchen doesn't heat up to a bajillon degrees), I actually manage to watch some television, and *this* year, I plan to keep gardening in the wintertime by using Rubbermaid containers and my grow lights to grow some leafy greens for the chickens, spinach and so on.

Us too, if there's enough leafy greens for both.

What do I do mostly in wintertime? Hibernate. Literally. My joints act up and my asthma becomes life-threatening, so I sit literally on top of a heater in the office where my computer is (for work), and I only go out for Christmas, New Year's, Roller Derby, and -- if the weather is good enough, ie non-windy and above 10' -- for groceries. And possibly a dr's. appointment. I will often watch television wrapped in a comforter and an electric blanket, trying to keep my joints from freaking out.

Otherwise I sleep, sew, read, cook, and don't leave the house from Thanksgiving to Saint Patrick's Day, aside from the exceptions listed above or if I have to for some reason, like, to get pet food.

I have a humungous brown furry robe (it's a men's XXL) that I wear on top of thermal underwear and wool socks and slippers, and it's not unusual for me to not leave the house for a couple weeks at a time.

I hate winter. This is why the retirement location's plan includes the phrase "No Snow. Really."

I move plants indoors and keep harvesting :D Hot peppers, basil, chives, etc..

Then I start plants indoors at the end of January...so there is no down time really.

I mope a lot about the 3 ft of snow I have to hike thru to get to my chicken barn (DH HAS a bobcat skidder but somehow never gets around to blazing me a trail) and am generally pouty all winter about the fact that nothing is growing. I crochet, read, sew, cook, and gripe about the snow. I hate snow, why do I live in MN?

Sparkles, maybe you should move to WV then... I gripe all winter about the mud!

I mostly work on projects in the winter, things that need fixed or built that I couldn't get to during the summer. All sorts of random things. I take more time for working out. And I do more baking in the winter too (which cancels all my workouts).

I used to do a lot of jewelry making, knitting, scrapbooking, etc...but having a toddler has changed all that. I hate to have to keep getting on her case about getting into all my costly supplies, spilling beads down the crack in the recliner, getting tangled in my yarn... That sort of hobby tends to become no longer very relaxing in the presence of a 3-yr-old!

Now I spend a lot of time planning next year's gardens, trading seeds, buying seeds, starting seeds, getting ready for and generally just dreaming about next Spring. :)

What a question.
I moved to the country so that I could spend more time with my horses.
Then, I had LOTS more yard work.
Then, I had LOTS more building repair. I went from a house/garage to; one house, one garage, one barn, one tool shed and one more outbuilding--soon to have one chicken coop, too.
Then, I started gardening and now have even MORE yard work.
GOOD THING I like the exercise!!!
You DON'T want to read MY to-do list!!!!
THIS winter I'll be planning my 2011 garden and starting lots more inside, now that my setup is setup.

For the most part I hibernate. We try to work on indoor home repair projects, but we never get as far as we plan. I spend some time knitting and spinning, but not as much as I'd like. In February I start my first seeds of the year, and we get a new batch of chicks to raise. By then I'm getting antsy to be back in the yard.
