Thanks Steve. (and cool trick, by the way).
I re-read the thread, and there's some good bits that I need to remember (like putting something under the bags!) but it doesn't say what to put IN the bags. I'm a little afraid of buying bags of top soil. The last couple of times I did that the stuff turned hard as a rock after the first watering. I thought about filling a couple of bags from the stall that Gail vacate when the hoop-house went up - nice mix of manure and shavings... but then I remembered that these bags are going IN MY HOUSE.

Canesisters, potting soil is much lighter than top soil and far less likely to 'turn hard as a rock". Other light additions that should work would be shredded paper and shipping popcorn. These should be mixed well into the soil. This will keep the bags light, moist, and allow the tubers to grow in the dark. Of course straw, shredded leaves, or hay on top of the straw should work, too, but I rather like the idea of keeping some soil mixed throughout the growing area.

Wow totally sprouted potatoes like a early gift I would immediately cut and plant them!!! Wahaha. I plant my sprouted potatoes in grain bags, fill the bags 1/2 full with compost and place them where they will get at least 4 hours of sun a day. I put mine in the basement and on warm days had my husband carry them to the porch!
usually when the potatoes have started to sprout that big then they get a little stringy. Cut the sprout off leaving a nice chunk of the potato and then eat the rest!!!! If you cant get soil from the yard get a bag of compost from Walmart like 2.00$ and the soil will work for 2 bags of potatoes!!

YEAH! Honeycomb is here!!!
I got 2 feed bags, 2 bags of potting soil, 2 dish pans (to cram the bottom of the bags in, a sunny window for them to live under... Will try to pick up 2 bags of compost and get them babies planted tomorrow!

Wonderful! you don't have to keep adding soil I have never had potatoes grow from the stalk. but if you give them plenty of room and fill the bags while they are in the dish pans ill will be easier! I put 2-3 but it is up to you If you need to or want to put more than that do it you won't hurt anything. I find that potatoes are the easiest to grow. and I know I don't ever buy potatoes!!!

Right now they are safely locked in the spare room (so the cat's don't think that I'm offering new litter box options.....)

My have all sprouted too...Not sure you can avoid it entirely. I definitely eat them. You might try canning potatoes, if you have a pressure canner. I really enjoy having potatoes in the pantry for a quick meal. I usually can fingerlings- since they aren't good keepers. If your ground isn't frozen, I would sure try to plant a few.
