the best hi jacked thread of 2017

figure i better start a new thread since it's not 2016 anymore......

last weekends snow and 3 days well below freezing couple of the night were in the single digits...
like 2*-8* not including the wind chill......

with the snow we received on saturday was a blessing, it made a nice protective blanket over everyone from the killer temperatures. plus was thankful for getting the 6 mil plastic this year..

here we are 1/11/17 everyone uncovered for the next couple nights will be in the upper 40's
overall view... very impressive was thinking the worst..

the beets

the lettuce bok chio radishes endive couple have a little frost bite on them....

was worried mostly about the spinach....Popeye the sailor would be proud of me.....

the kale

the green onions took a toll might pull them and dry them...

was very happy to see the rosemary still alive... just 2 burnt spears

and whats a winter garden without carrots....

the main garden has almost lost it's snow...

do need to cut most wire for supports this weekend had what i had spread to thin to handle the load..

Your snow sure melts fast. Wish I could have a winter garden. Those rats are getting worse. I'm worried if I can even have a spring garden.

a outside cat would stop them...... but again the rats would eat the cat.... glue traps?
better yet have a couple foxes that eat rodents like we have..

There are several types of traps.

I remember, was it @so lucky, saying she accidentally trapped a Cardinal? Seems like a bird wouldn't get in this and someone could release a chipmunk if it got into something like this trap. Catch and release wouldn't be the right way to deal with a rat population.

True rat killing machines are not cats but small dogs. Many of the toy breeds where bred to be so small they could follow a rat in to its hole. The Yorkshire Terrier was bred to kill rats not be a lap dog. Any one who owned a JR terrier know a rat would have no chance against one.

Over here, racoons have attacked small dogs. A lady was walking her dog at dusk and it got killed by a racoon. That year there were several attacks. The city has advised us to keep small dogs inside. I'm always scared when I'm dog sitting and have to let my daughter's small dog out at night to do it's business. Racoons don't always just come out after dark. One bright sunny day at 3:30 we saw a racoon on top of my neighbor's shed. I yelled at it to try to scare it off but all it did was look at me. Probably thought I was crazy, haha.
